For the first time since last spring, i finally had the time to go kill some paper targets. I had to sight in a .22 I just bought, anyway/. :D Well, here it is. Sighting in at 25 yards and then 100 yards, with open sights.
25 yards, 2 groups

100 Yards, one group.

Temperature was 14℉ with wind chills of -12, and I managed to stay mostly toasty warm. :D
Pardon the images, this is off the Phone's camera.

OOPS, thanks, I jotted that down at the range. It's the cell of a guy there that I plan on meeting up with to shoot with. I erased it. :p
Very nice. What kind of .22 did you get?
By the way, those blurry pics make it look like spy photos of sasquatch shooting a rifle.

A Marlin Model 49DL, nice little rifle from about 1971. 18 round tube mag.

Nice. I'm goin out to the range Sunday with a bunch of friends. :)
After I teach a first timer the safety rules and the operation of the weapons he'll be shooting, we're gonna have a speed shooting competition. I only hope it won't be as cold as it was on your trip. :notamused:

It's tough to tell, how does one go about sighting a gun, is there some sort of stand that you use?

I sight it in off of a sandbag, bench rest style.

NIce shots. I'm going with a friend and shoot his AR-15 on Saturday. He provides the gun, I provide the ammo.

I've plinked around with .22's but never on a range. Just out in the middle of nowhere shooting at cable rolls. Never had the chance to sight a gun...

I still need to move the front sight a tad to the right, it shoots about an inch to the right at 100 yards, I just got the sight elevation correct on the rear sight today. It was too cold to be tapping the sight over with a punch. Final sighting in will be this Spring. I can compensate for that little drift fairly well, and am looking forward to some rabbit for dinner in the near future. :D

I LOL'd!!!! I could picture this being a Jack Links commercial of some sort.
Good shooting Tom. Just gotta bring it in a little left and you are there. I have two Ruger 10/22s that I have picked up over the years and a Bronco single shot break open. As I have gotten older I have had to put a scope on one of Rugers.
I never realized you were a fellow shooter and hunter.

Yep, I definitely hunt. Back in the Reagan Years, one winter I actually fed my wife and I with a .22, as well as our neighbors. We were all out of work and .22 is cheap.

One year a friend of mine had me come out to her 40 acres near Black Forest to thin the hoards of cotton tails that were inhabiting the spread. Brought my old single shot .22...10 shots later, ten rabbits. They were quite accustomed to humans, so it wasn't fancy shooting, kind of ashamed to admit some were as close as 3 feet away, but we wanted them for dinner.
Over the next couple days we tried cooking them every way known....fried, boiled, baked...and they we're all tough as shoe leather.
The last three had been in the fridge for 3 days. We put them a pressure cooker for 20 minutes, then on the grill for ten, coated in a little BBQ sauce. That method of cooking resulted in some of the most tender and delicious rabbit any of us had ever had, so just wondering if you have any recipes for rabbit that work out well?
I'd love to pick up a fun little gun someday and take it to a range. Give it a shot*.
(*No pun intended.**)
(**That's a lie.)
I think most folks would be surprised how they could cut the grocery bill by harvesting wildlife in accordance to state regulations. Deer, turkeys, rabbits, geese, ducks, squirrels, wild boars, frogs, turtles, and of course fish can really stock up the larder. No growth hormones or antibiotics!
I also go picking blueberries, raspberries, and grape leaves among other things when they are in season.
.22lr is fairly cheap and that is why it is the most widely used cartridge!!!

Yeah, I'll have to dig them out, though. Hassenpheffer is pretty good, though and there are recipes all over the net that are good. I like rabbit stew, for example.

4 years living in wisconsin and dating farmboys- I'm proud to say I've never dined on wabbit or shot a gun. :D
I escaped.. narrowly.
Hmm, there are actually more shooting ranges closer to me than I would have thought. Interesting.
I wonder how much of a bad idea it'd be to look at guns on the internet at work. :P

You want a pink mist, or a rabbit to eat? A Dragunov would be more suited to larger game.

Even just range shooting is a blast, X...I highly recommend it. You can pick up a decent little .22 for $100.00 or so, and just plink away really cheaply. Do invest in hearing protection as well, though, since the range will be rather loud. The guy on the pit next to me was shooting a dang hand cannon, a Ruger in .460 Cal. Talk about loud! I had the hearing protectors off briefly and he fired and I immediately developed a bit of tinnitus in my right ear....
Needless to say, I got the ear covers on again immediately!

Not bad at all for not having shot for several months :thumb: .
I need to haul myself down to the range pretty soon as well, although the snow and the flooding is making that a bit difficult at the moment :notamused: .

And yeah, definitely with the ear protection. I've probably done plenty of damage to my hearing as it is.

Plinking with .22lr.....so cool.
What ammo you running?
My Ruger Mk II is always the one we pass around at the range. Scoped, the bull-barrell...tack driver.
Fun.
Me I use the Federal boxes of 500 that they sell at Wally World. I am more of a plinker at the range. Put one through the center of a dime at 50 yards though. (Scoped)

I tried it once with a .22, it was not bad. I wasn't all that comfortable with the massive weaponry being used around me, though.

I wasn't all that comfortable with the massive weaponry being used around me, though.I have a vague image of some sort of spoof movie, where one person is at a firing range, while someone else is firing off howitzers and rocket launchers and the like. Can't place it, though.
But yeah, I'm sure such places have a fair population of the stereotypical "***hole gun guy" types.

Hehe that's pretty good, Tom!! Your pics remind me of Michigander's snow pics. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to post my pea shooters on the public forum.
But then maybe not. Good little Asian gals aren't supposed to play with target punchers.

Fun.
Depends, I hunt with CCI Stingers. I shoot targets with a cheaper brand, PMC Zapper .22LR. Still an enhanced velocity round, but about half the cost of CCI. CCI is more reliable under field conditions, though.
My .270, I use Winchester branded Winchester short magnums, and the AK, I generally use Wolf or sometimes Federal 7.62X39. My Mosin-Nagant fires Wolf 7.62X54. My AR variant uses Beowulf .50.
I also have a Barret .50 I can't afford to shoot at $18.00 a shot (.50 BMG)
