Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Crank Brothers to Shimano

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am changing out all the Crank Brothers Pedals on my bikes. I found I needed Knee Savers and you can't use them with Crank Brothers because you can't torque them with a wrench. So it is back to Shimano Pedals on my bikes.
Anyone else have this issue with Kneesavers and Crank Brothers?

Do you really need them to be anything more than hand tight?
Love my Kneesavers. Really made a difference for me.
Not familiar with the Crank Bros. pedals other than pics in the catalogs.
I guess if your worried about them loosening under hand tightening, you could always use a little Loctite (Blue). But, not sure how you could apply torque to break the bond when you want to remove them in the future.

FYI, the Crank Brothers Eggbeater C pedals can be tightened using a pedal wrench.
And the Knee Savers website suggests you can tighten Allen-based pedals using a pair of vice-grip pliers. I'd suggest a dab of blue Loctite on the pedal threads and I'd wrap the pedal shaft with a dish towel before applying the vice grips. No real need to go back to Shimano as far as I can see...

Did you find out you needed the knee savers because of a bicycle fitting of your bike? After my bike fitting we tried spacing my pedals out some with shims, but it actually made my knees not run as true as they were before the spacers were added.
Just curious on how you know you need them, and how far out you have to go and if you had already been checked with that specific length of spacer.
