Foo - Wife ordered me to find an appropiate bra and I need help

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I need some help from the females around here.
Wifey started attending an aerobics class and needs a bra that could hold the stuff in place. Cycling is not the sport but if it works for biking it should work for the aerobics, she said. Then she pointed at the computer and told me to log in and find out.
I know I could google but any recommendations about field tested apparel will be appreciated.

Champion makes good supportive bras. They are sold at sporting goods stores.

She "pointed" and "told" you to find out about a bra for her? And you're posting this for all to read?

Champion, Sugoi, any of the regular brands. There's usually a pretty good selection is places like REI or Mountain Equipment. Many come in small, medium or large, so look at her sweater size to get sizing clues.

I was under the impression that was the point of sports bras. To flatten and keep stuff from moving around.

uh, yea....shouldn't she be the one looking, because according to my wife, like cycling, fit is everything

I have heard good things about Title Nine (http://www.titlenine.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=674).
Sounds like the aerobics class is a great thing!

I have tried this danskin sports bra (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10629923&sourceid=1500000000000003260430&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=10629923)--works well for me for low to medium impact activities like dancing/going to gym/cycling on smooth roads. The thick padding annoys me sometimes, but it helps with the dreaded boob jiggle. I also have tried this champion bra (http://www.championusa.com/champion/Products/CH1622.aspx?&TRC=CSEC&cm_mmc=ComparisonShopping-_-pricegrabber.com-_-women_activewear_sports%20bra-_-CH1622), which is really awesome--works well for high impact exercises like jogging/jumping about/cycling on bad roads.
YMMV though, it really depends on how she is built. I'm a happily small-ish size but my boobs hurt when they jiggle, so I need a lot of support. Choose her sports bra depending on her size and how much it hurts when her boobs bounce about.
Gee, these things average about $40 bucks a piece. I hope she doesn't quit the aerobics class after a month...

Welcome to Women's sportswear. I'm betting men's 'supportive garments' don't cost $40.

The danskin one I mentioned is $10 from evil-mart (clicky the linky in my previous post). Real cheap, but if your wife is around my size (32C) it may work really well for her. If it doesn't, you're only out $10. But then again, comfy boobies are happy boobies so I would really not mind paying $40-ish for a sports bra.

Just walk around cupping the sports bras in your local "ladies Dept" with your hands, youll either find the perfect one or end up on the local news as a perv!

Depends on how busty she is. I can wear pretty much anything, including $10 WalMart cheap-o's (though I really like Adidas and GoLite bras, since WalMart cheap-o's tend to be made out of cotton and get soaked), but I wear an A-cup. I have a friend who's a D, and she gravitates toward Moving Comfort, because otherwise she has to double up.

Wow, I wonder if at that size, no sports bra will control the bouncing. A previous ex was close to that size and she never did find anything that was good for jogging and let her breathe at the same time.

Oh, now I could definitely use those.
If a guy forgets his cup and is sparring me, he will warn me and ask me not to hit/kick him there.
However, the same guy usually doesn't seem to mind punching me in the chest (our ultra-sensitive spot), or kicking me in the groin.
If I'm playing nice, they should too.

I wouldn't, mostly because I usually outrank them.
But I have nailed a few who forgot to warn me...after that they all got really good at remembering their cups or at least saying something. :p

Ah, then you really have to buy her an expensive one. I think a sports bra with underwire will produce the least jiggle. Doubling up with a sports bra under a tank that has a supportive shelf (one of those tight ones that you need help getting out of) may help too. Anyway, good luck finding a good bra for your wife!

Another vote for Title Nine - they have awesome stuff there.
Personnally, I am wearing this bra (http://www.titlenine.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=2155&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=674&iSubCat=676&iProductID=2155)on our bike tour and it's working just fine.
If she really has trouble with bouncing, I've heard this one (http://www.titlenine.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=2172&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=674&iSubCat=676&iProductID=2172)is as solid as a steel cage.

Title 9 ftw!!!!! If you wife can't figure it out from the information they provide, she can call their 800# and talk to someone there for more information. They have been helpful to me in the past---women answering the phones! She should have her measurements handy, as well as past-bra-sizes that she has worn that still fit her and work for her.
$40 is nothing for a bra. And, you can't have just one if you're active, you need two or three (one to wear, one that's dirty, one that's line-drying).

She has it backwards: If it works for aerobics it'll work for cycling. It might work for cycling but be insufficient for aerobics.
And Ruben, the way you worded your OP, you sound like her lap dog. Man up, dude.

Not to be gross, but do you really want her to be saggy in a few years? Not to mention the back problems that bigger girls can get without the right support.
$40 is nothing compared to the life long benefits it will bring.
And just like how everyone says that fit is most important for bikes and to support your LBS - take the good lady to a specialist store and get the fit right in person with the experts (note - not every bra store has properly training fitters - ask around, check with manufacturers websites). Every brand is slightly different and a perfect fit in one brand of sports bra might not be the same sizing as her everyday bras.

I know women who have worn two or three bras at once to control the bounce. They went running, so I assume they could breathe.
Title 9's got some great alternatives to this layers-of-bras solution.

Man, are you whipped!
Did she make you go buy her a box of Tampons before she had you look for a bra for her?

Wifey has been nice for 3 weeks in row now. It is a record. If she wants some bra, I'll get her the bra. :)
