Cyclocross - Barrel Adjusters on Brake Cables

I'm planning on removing my in-line brake levers on my race bike (I tapped them once all season, and that was on a warm up lap). I'll be glad to get rid of the the extra weight and clutter that these levers are, but I will miss having the barrel adjusters that are incorporated into the levers. I've been thinking about using the Jagwire barrel adjusters, but I'm concerned they'll make the brake cable routing too wonky, especially on my Cannondale, where the rear brake cable is routed along the right side of the top tube.

Is anybody using barrel adjusters on thier brake cables, or just running their brakes straight without any barrel adjusters? (BTW, my setup is Shimano Tiagra brifters and Tektro Oryx brakes).

The rear is fine (plenty of cable there to fit it into) but the front is a bit weird now. Next time I recable, I'm going to try and fit them right where the cables come out from under the tape to avoid the kinking problem I've got with the front. I saw someone else's bike with them there, and it seemed to be a better spot than 2" or so out, where mine are.

For the moment I've solved it by running the housing over the stem to a deep drop cable hanger. Dura-Ace/Textro Oryx combo here.

This is where they came stock on my Fuji Cross. The adjuster is so tight against the handlebar that you have to lift it away from the bar to turn it....but I think that's a good thing as there is no chance of this thing turning on its own due to bumps and vibrations.

I had to add them to my TCX. It was a pain having to loosen the cable clamp at the brake every time I wanted to remove the wheel. And then adjust the brake when I reinstalled the wheel.
And it's nice to have a way to adjust the brakes while riding.

I don't have adjusters. I dont have any room for them really.

I find that it would be nearly impossible to do any adjustments on the bike while you are racing. Get those things dialed in the night before and barring any mishaps, you will be fine.

I run inline adjusters and use them during races when things are getting mucky and I get a bit of brake rub.

Yes, I use the Jagwire mini inline adjusters. Just put a touch of green park lube on the threads before you install them and they're super easy to adjust!
