I gotta get outta town. I'll be moving in the summer. Requirements: On the ocean is great, near is good. University. Mountains in close proximity is a priority ( big ones, I live in CO). I need seasons. I also do not like big cities. I live in a town of 150,000 and that's about the biggest size.

So far, Arcada, CA, Eugene, OR, Portland, OR. Any other places I should consider? Any pluses or minuses of the these places? Any help would be great! Thanks.

although closer to the ocean than I am now, it's still a bit far for my tastes, plus, I've already lived in the absolute middle of nowhere....

Try Coastal North Carolina. Duke and UNC. Appalchian Mountains and Atlantic Ocean. Not oo many big cities. Good quality of life and low taxes. Take trips to New York or down to Florida as you are right in between. Just my .02 cents!

Give Canada a shot. Outskirts of Vancouver, smallish towns, close to the ocean. Bring some women.

Arcada, CA = fog in summer, lots of rain in winter. They do have the best police blotter I've ever seen though. http://arcataeye.com/index.php?module=pagesetter&tid=2&topic=7
Eugene is about an hour from a cold and foggy ocean. Portland > 150,000 population.

San Luis Obispo and Contra Costa County, (East of the tunnel) meet all your requirements, (except seasons, then again no where on the west coast near the ocean has seasons.)

Tsukuba, Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsukuba)

On the ocean is great, near is good: Near
University: Yes
Mountains in close proximity is a priority ( big ones, I live in CO).: Near Mt. Tsukuba, Japan Alps just a train ride away
I need seasons: Yes
I also do not like big cities: Pop. 207,000

There are probably lots of small cities in Japan that meet your requirements, actually. Small cities in China might meet your requirements except for the population. Weather also tends to suck. 150,000 is tiny for China, which means very few Western-style comforts.

Also:
- Chile: Los Angeles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles,_Chile) -- This is probably right about perfect for you, given your requirements (and I've got family there :D) Edit: Dang, university might be a problem, but I'm sure you can find one nearby... Edit 2: There you go (http://www.losangeles.cl/comuna/educacion/colegios.htm)!
- Northern Italy, a town near Milan?
- Andorra

And I don't mean these suggestions (entirely) in jest -- think outside the box!

Christchurch, NZ.:p

Has distinct seasons, has two universities, beside the sea, about 2hrs drive from the Southern Alps, pop about 300,000 though (often seems smaller as you run into people you know), people generally friendly, government paid emergency care and subsidized health care (except dentistry).

It's what you are looking for in your new home.:D

Mount Corpus Christi is kinda hard to find, but the Texas Gulf Coast offers a semblence of the ocean. That is all.

The Carolinas might be worth considering. Atlantic Ocean, Mountains, colleges out the wazoo. Small southern town feeling can be found minutes from major cites.

Washington or Oregon. Just go a little north or south of Seattle, WA or Portland, OR and you should get your smaller city requirement met.

Unless things have changed greatly, CA is obscenely expensive, and I think OR is trying to discourage immigration.

North Carolina seems like a good choice.

For those suggesting east coast...

Yes, there are "mountains" on the east coast, but it isn't the same as west coast mountains.

Out here, many areas called mountains are like the west coast foot hills. They may be better elsewhere, but in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast the areas labeled as mountains on a map aren't anything like the Cascades, Olympics, Sierra Nevada... or various other west coast ranges. And forget about comparing them to the the Rockies.

Just look at a topological map of the US...

That'll work nicely if you want to have to drive around in a deep snow mobile and have your nuts get frost bitten and fall off. :notamused:

The city of Olympus Mons. It's near a fair-sized mountain (88,000 feet), has your choice of blistering heat or frigid cold, and will have an ocean nearby once the terraforming is complete (or if we find an ancient alien atmosphere generator). If you get in while the getting's good, the population is very low!
