Or so they tell me, I never feel the earthquakes down here - but I did notice that the gates on our house were rattling.

Everyone around me noticed it, but they are smaller than me and I assume don't have as much momentum to overcome. :rolleyes:

Just to let everyone know it is, in our neck of the jungle, just another day in paradise. Not so good I hear in the Central Valley though.

Meh, there was a little shake in CA yesterday. 4.5 at the epicenter, so in my area about 30mi away, it was an eensy weensy tremor. I thought it was just my siblings jumping around, but when they poked my head in to ask if I felt the earthquake I found out otherwise. :lol:

Come to find out, there has been more than a few people die and a lot of damage. It was a terrible time of year to have an earthquake. Everything is saturated with water, so it doesn't take much on a deforested slope to get it moving - and nothing will stop it when it gets going.

There was 7 in Parrita some years ago, and there were only two deaths, someone who had a heart attack, and a drunk on a motorcycle.

I had to laugh about our local reports about earthquakes. Why just a couple weeks ago there was a 2.4, and a few weeks before that, there was a 3.3. This can only mean the BIG one is coming. I hope I can survive a devastating 4.0 quake. :eek: :innocent:

What a bunch of wusses around here. They'd probably mob the stores for milk, bread and toilet paper if they had a real quake here.

Yikes! We're supposed to be do for a big one sometime here in Utah. Every once in a while we'll have a little one. The last one I remember distinctly. Joe and I were laying on the bed, half asleep in the morning. I heard the glasses shaking on the wall shelf and I assumed that it was the neighbor's laundry on spin cycle again. Once the bed started shaking, I knew something was up.

Very funny guys. :p He was sleeping too and wasn't shaking the bed. When it was over, we were both wondering wtf happened.

I felt a little rumble yesterday too. If it's not over 5.0, i'm not getting excited about it. :lol:

Looks like the results were pretty bad. 14 people dead, about 300 wounded. They say there are thousands isolated (i.e. can't get out)

This is the worst earthquake that I know of here in the 7 years we have been doing business in Costa Rica. :(

It was a 6.2, which is not good this time of year - it can make the soft soils shake like jello.

That's horrible! :( I hope they can get everyone out.

We have 6 active volcanoes if I recall correctly. The most active is Arenal - I think we are 30 miles away as the parrot flies.

The earthquake I don't think was from volcanic activity - usually those are shallow - this was felt over the own country.

Bummer. So I on the other hand have only heard about this here. Google found me links at the BBC and Irish Times but nothing at NYT.com or washpost.com

Just making some room for Yellowstone down there, sorry about that.

Back when Pope John Paul was dying, at the same time, two ex-presidents of Costa Rica were sitting in jail for accepting bribes. Both situations were very emotional for the Ticos, so they did what they normally do, make a joke out of it...
