Anyone know of any nice solar-powered bike computers, preferably wireless? I did a google search and found only one brand that was inexpensive but didn't have a lot of functions, and it also was not wireless.

A solar bike computer would be great, IMHO. My wireless computers seem to eat batteries, which often fail without notice so I lose all of the data. Plus, over time you would save enough money from not having to buy batteries to recoup your costs for the computer.

I see no reason why a bike solar computer wouldn't work. I have a Casio solar watch that has many functions and works flawlessly, and it only cost about $50.

Cateye had one in the mid to late '80s. It wasn't wireless though.

Why not use some good rechargeable batteries with a good charger?

If you had any electrical knowledge you could rig one up. Wired of course. The transmitter for speed/cadence will still need power, that would be tricky.

I don't see why it would have to be wired. You just have two solar panels.

wireless ?

to generate radio transmission and drive the filters, takes some power. you'd
need expensive, highly developed solar chips, or a large amount of cheap ones.

I don't see why it would have to be wired. You just have two solar panels.

Because if you have little power available, you don't waste it.

Are you taking into account how many hours of sunlight your bicycle actually 'sees' ?

Wireless would increase the power requirement at least tenfold and you would still need a battery if it was overcast.

You'd be better off adapting a Reelight or similar to power a wired computer.

Or you could power any speedo that you like from rechargeable batteries and then recharge them from a solar powered charger.

Or how about a cable driven speedo/odometer like choppers had ?

I saw the solar computers on British eBay and Amazon, but they don't ship to the USA. I haven't found similar computers available anywhere in the US.
