Lithium batteries are still way too expensive for me, but a 36V lead-acid just died in my velomobile yesterday. The one I have is not available any more; but they have a few lithium batteries that would fit right in! What a ridiculous scam! I am having a battery nightmare!

I believe many A123 batteries are made in China.

Me? I asked for info (leaving a message) but did not get a call back. Have to remove the seat to even see the batteries. I have no idea what is back there, but I have a 36V charger.
i know my store hast SLA batteries that are 36v, but we would probably need to take a look at it to see if ours would be compatible. where abouts would you be?

Santa Cruz, CA. I heard today that the battery was 8 amp, but it would take a half hour at least to get to the old battery- remove insulation, foam, braces, seat. Also was told they no longer sell this specific one (so the box goes), but 3 12V batteries can be placed top/sides. Sounds tacky to me! I think offhand that I will just strip it of the EV parts, and put the old wheel back on.
Strange! My other 24V outlasted this one. Old "can" motor; snapped the small chain once.
thats crazy. ya my store could sell you the 3 cells that you could stack. unfortunately we are in canada. we do ship tot he states if you want the batteries tho

A123 is getting a $1.8billion loan to build a new LiFePO4 plant in Michigan. Specifically it will employ up to 14,000 workers, and is being engineered to make batteries for up to 5,000,000 cars a year.
General Motors is supporting their efforts, because they will need the batteries for the new Chevy Volt. The loan is already being processed, and construction is to begin within a few months, from what I read.
