Did sumthin' different today, some dirty stuff! 10 miles at 6.8 average. Just trying to get in some training on the climbs. This is a 5 mile loop and I did it twice so 5 miles is some serious climbing. When I'm in good shape, I do it 3 times. Most of the others do it once then take a nap. He hard core racers will do it 3 times and drop my arse while doing it!:D
The first loop was tough as it starts out straight up. I felt much better on the second loop and thought about a 3rd but figured I still have to ride the rest of the weekend. Today I did the course clockwise. Sometimes I go CCW and/or alternate. That would be up on the side where I crashed in the pics below.
From the bottom, top is upper left of the hill

Yeah, We live a couple of miles from this area. Why you think Gina doesn't like riding around our hood! She'd rather tavel 30 miles to the flat trail. Cool with me! If my legs are tired tomorrow, I might draft her,................. making for a nice ride!:P

Gina don't MTB. I thought about it before since I thouthgt it would be great crosstraining for the road but then I flipped and split my helmet. I need Gina in one piece, healthy and at work if I want to continue this cycling habit!:p

Do you ride MTB with platform pedals or clipless?

I'm not that way!;)
Yeah Richard, clipless spd type. Came on the bike, Ritchie I believe!
I don't race downhill so not concerened with the dh. More about the climbing on my part.
This always reminds me of some coworkers that had an mtb group. They rode offroad at this location and invited me to tag along. The guys had stripped frames, no paint for liteness, alum nipples for less rotational weight blah blah blah! Everything they spoke of was how well they did on the downhills.
I was training for Ride Around the Bear century (10k climbing in first 62 miles). I rode with them. I waited for the much thinner riders at the top of the 2.5 mile climb, maybe 10 minutes...One guy was so shocked that he invited me back for a repeat of the ride. On the way down, he hauled butt and I just cruised. He beat me by maybe 1 minute. So he went on how he thought he might beat me on the 5 mile loop because he was better at downhilling.
Next time out he said not to wait for him as he was giving it his all in an attempt to beat me on the loop. Cool, I hauled butt uphill then crusied down. I completed the loop 15 minutes before he did. I invited him on another loop but he declined!:D
I do the loop 3 times when I'm training, they do it once. I concentrate on the climbing and they concentrate on the downhills. I never understood why.:p
I just think it's funny when others suggest that I go platforms for the downhill. Why when it doesn't concern me!:D
After that ride, I was uninvited by the group!:roflmao2:

I tried Shimano 520's on my MTB last year but it was a disaster, on technical sections I could not unclip fast enough and I fell a few times and if I stopped on an uphill it was impossible for me to get restarted. But I've gotten a lot of experience on my road bike since then and maybe I could handle clipless on my MTB. Tomorrow I wanna ride some fire roads and trails so I'll try the clipless again... :thumb:

Ahh, my mtb rides are 99/9% firetrails. Nothing technical. I did go on a forum ride with some singletrack. Not sure if I waslucky but never unclipped and never went down. Did feel like it a couple of times. Had that sensation of rolling sideways down a bank....I just kept pedaling, to stay upright and all went well!:p
