Greetings all,

Does anyone know where the best current price is for a Garmin Edge 705? Been looking on ebay, and various places on the web. Best I have found recently thus far is:

http://garmn.factoryoutletstore.com/cat/1660/Garmin-Fitness.html They are currently offering an $80 dollar rebate, which takes the base model with HRM to about 414 and the one with cadence to around 469.

Seems like the best average is a little over $400. Same with ebay. Anyone found anything less costly recently that is still available?

Thanks much

Be blessed!

This one is 365 (http://www.outdoorgb.com/p/Garmin_Edge_705_GPS_Cycle_Computer/). but I think it is a store in the UK. I have never ordered from them, so I have no idea if they are OK or not.

Be aware that the U.K. models include U.K. or European maps. So you'll have to factor in another $100 for U.S. maps. Also not sure what sort of power cord you'll get if you order a European/U.K. model. You can charge via USB, but sometimes it's nice to be able to connect the unit directly to the wall for charging.

FWIW, I bought my 705 on eBay. I paid $410 for a Edge 705 with HR, Cadence, and SD map card. Don't buy the SD map card if you can avoid it. Much better to buy your own SD card and maps on DVD. DVD maps can, as I understand it, be used on both the Edge 705 and your computer. The SD map card can only be used in the Edge. Depending on which software you use, this might be important to you.

If I wanted to buy an Edge today, I'd be watching eBay. I'd also think carefully about whether I needed the 705 or the 305. I bought the 705 thinking I could use it as a general-purpose GPS device when I wasn't cycling. Turns out the screen is pretty small and the navigation UI is a bit cumbersome; it's not a great general-purpose GPS receiver. I have yet to use any of the navigation features while on the bike. Which makes me think that I might have been able to get away with a 305...

Paid $439 on Ebay with HRM and cadence. bought the map DVD separately as generally recommended. I think I'm going to also order a few spare mounts on Ebay. Haven't cycled yet, but I'm pretty impressed with the overall design. Should be very readable up until you ride into the back of a stopped car. Actually, I think that's the big advantage of the record and playback feature: you can just ride and look at your stats later.

OK, thanks for the results thus far. A related question: What and where is the best price for the City Map DVD?

Thanks!!

I just went to Amazon. Free shipping and I don't believe there was sales tax. Think I paid about $70.

I would probably agree with Amazon. There isn't a whole lot of variation in the price. Retail is $99.99, best price you're likely to find is around $80. Make sure to grab the product number from the Garmin website and check carefully before ordering. There are a bunch of map products which look very similar, but don't necessarily work with all devices! Also I believe that maps are "locked" to a particular computer and device; one reason that I would not buy map products on eBay or Craig's List unless I was very sure they were completely unused...
