Touring - Man on the Street interview Aspen CO (my trip)

Unlike some people my tour was less popular and less supported. I still think I did a pretty good job being an attention wh*re on my trip. I got some free yogurt and two meals which I didn't even have to ask for err beg people. People just gave it to me, much like this interview. I finally got it up on youtube, so I feel the need to be a wh*re and share.

I happen to be walking my bike through Aspen Colorado (pedestrian mall) and was offered an interview.


Note I just bought some food and yes it looks like a lot of stuff, but I am the one hauling it and I think I made that clear why I am hauling it. I would do things differently to shave off ten pounds and most of the bulky things. Also I didn't hitch any rides so I didn't disclose this information. I was on my 67 day but kinda forgot during the interview. I live in Phoenix and I think he mistook I lived in Minnesota since I told him that I was going there when I was done.

Anyone who has climbed the Independence Pass knows how remote this is. I had been out in the forest a couple days and and had trouble speaking to humans that and its so early in the morning. It is in the middle of summer and I have a arctic sweater on and tights under the pants along with wool socks. If you look closer you might see some of my geeky err safety gear I took off for the interview.
Keep in mind the 30 miles and a park or forest is mostly true through out my route. I used BLM land also. Again I was having trouble with word choice.
I never made it to CO springs and decided to take a short cut.

I was in Basalt Co when they emailed and told me to come pick up the DVD. I had asked for a copy thinking they would send me an email. So I left my bike and took the bus back to get this.

Well to be honest I was using that as a reference point sorry I forgot to disclose that. I did everything else. I had planned on going which might be why I gave that information since of course I was nervous. LOL I went through Phoenix. Also I went to Mt. Zion's north entrance which I guess is very unpopular compared to the other southern entrance. Since I didn't want to get a cage ride through the tunnel I went around on Utah 59. I wanted to say I went car free the whole way which I did. Since I am carfree naturally at home.

Jacob Lake Campground was closed so it was rather quiet which the entrance to North Rim is quiet anyways.

When I got there at the Jacobs Lake after lots of climbing and really frikin hot temperatures before that, They didn't have any food expect a very small store and restaurant. Which I was relying on to feed me Since Tuba City 100 miles was the last food source other than a gas station in Marble canyon. The visitor center said the store down by the Park was just a mini store on top of the mini store here. The food bill averaged 25 dollars a day.
When I went to the Gas station to get some air for my previous flat tires, The attendant didn't even know what an air compressor was. After I showed him in the full service shop he couldn't find how to turn it on.

I had a bent rear derailer (spelling) also which I really didn't know that at the time other than it didn't work all that good. I had gone through my two tubes and was down to my patches. Which I had never used. So to say my tour was failing apart was understatement. I elected to not go down that dead end. Of course my luck the bicycle shop in Kanab that I found on a whim had the mechanic on vacation. Then in Hurricane Utah which I found out nobody is open on Sundays anywhere in Utah, they were swamped with bikes so I had to go all the way up to Cedar City Utah. This of course was just part of the Journey :). I
