I went down to Ise last monday to visit Ise Shrine. The precinct consists of an Inner and Outer Shrine (Nai-ku, Ge-ku)
Nai-ku or otherwise known as the Grand Shrine, is the home of all the past Emperors, and is the most sacred Shrine in Japan.
The following pictures are of it's surrounding garden and beautiful houses / shops etc.

Yeh, much of the forest area keeps a little of it's greenery especially the pines. In our Kyoto City area though it's quite bare, although there are "winter cherry blossoms" out right now on Oike Dori. Beautiful.
