Tandem Cycling - Brake pads

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It is that time of year that I am going to tune up our tandem. Last year I rebuilt the entire bike with new/slightly used everything and a stripped/repainted frame. I have koolstop salmon brake pads on Record dual pivot calipers [front/rear]. What are you guys using and do you recommend anything else.

Over the years I've replaced all my brake pads on my singles to Koolstop. They are quiet and stops better than the stock pads that came on my bikes. I plan to change my tandem brake pads to Koolstop too when the stock pads need replacing. That's how much I like them :) I've also heard good things about Swisstops.

Rear brake: currently using KoolStop Eagle 2 brake pads on our Tektro Mini-V brake.
Front brake: original Dura Ace caliper pads. Got over 23,000 miles on them and they still work fine.
We use our rear brake harder and much more than the front.
Best pads we ever used was back in the 80s when we got over 50,000 miles off a set of Scott/Matthauser pads on the rear of our tandem.
And yes, we do live in hilly terrain.
We are a sub-250 lb duo.

Campy compounds on Record dual pivots front & rear work fine for us.
