This will be of great interest to you northerns out there stuck on a trainer in the winter time! If you don't have the easy 60deg, slightly overcast forecast, or the sunny, but windy California weather then this is for you!

"Wii going too far? You tell Me. by D. M. Publisher Ph.D.

Amherst, MA(DDP) - Game developers at Ninendo may be going a little too far. Sources tell me that in addition to new products for the Wii Fit system, they are developing an interface and game story for bicyclists. What? did I just say bicyclists? I did. The ultimate outdoor sport is going indoors! And not on the track. Well not unless you choose that option.

Nintendo, makers of the popular Wii game/exercise system are working with manufacturers of indoor bicycle trainers to develop an automatic resistance changing system that will respond to input from the Wii console. The wireless interface has already been designed and tested. Only the auto adjusting level difficulty system is unfinished. Representatives from Blackburn, Kinetic, and Cycleops, leaders in indoor trainer technology, refused to comment when questioned. However, my source confirms that upgrades on these manufacturers devices will allow users at every level to have greater challenges while staying safe in their home.

Can you imagine completing the Tour de France in Paris? What about Paris, Texas? What about winning the mountain stages of Giro d'Italia while overlooking the mountains of Tennessee? Think you can outsprint Cancellara or Armstrong(Kristin, not Lance) in an Olympic time trial? Do you think you could win a track race against Hoy, Wiggins, or Romero? Then you go right ahead and try. And you won't have to rewind time and go to Beijing to try. Just dial it up on your new Nintendo Weeeeeee Cycling Spinner. Those are just a few of the optional courses available in this new Nintendo product.

Details on the release date are sketchy, but you can expect to find the Nintendo Weeeeeee Spinner at online retailers and local local bicycle shops nationwide by the end of 3rd quarter 2009. That will be just in time for the next winter doldrums that so many cyclists have to endure. So get ready cyclists, you too can be a great cyclists without having to take your allergy medicine!"

Yup, but it's still a great idea.

Yeah, it is a great idea and I would gladly pay for it if it existed... I have a Wii that is collecting dust at the moment and wouldn't mind putting it to good use.

Yep, few years ago!...I went to a health expo years ago, 1995'ish at the LA Convention Center. My friend challenged me to a bicycle drag race. It was cool, bikes on trainers hooked up to monitors showing an animated rider. Up on stage infront of the crowd. I was a bit shy getting up there but he talked me into it. I ended up winning and walked away with a free PowerBar t-shirt!:D

That was a cool game. The faster you pedaled the faster your cartoon dude rode won the dragstrip! SO yeah, they've had similar systems out for years.

They have the training sim spinners at my gym-they are pretty cool. If Wii came out with this, I might actually be moved to get a game console.

Now that would be a great system.

There is already a butt load of similar products on the market right now. They run off your computer and allow you to download new courses and I believe some of them let you race against people online. Crack open a "Buy-Cycling" magazine and you will find at least three pages of them.

Between the console, game, and new special trainer I wonder how cost effective it would be.

Ya know, I love Wii tennis, but I keep thinking that I'd rather be playing actual tennis. The only problem is finding people to play with. Kind of pulls the rug out from under this idea. (Yeah, I got that it's a joke.)

Does that mean that there would be a simulated pace line? Maybe a sim pack leader yelling out road hazards, and simulated wheel sucking?

Might there also be simulated pedestrians to dodge? Simulated cagers in SUVs on simulated cell phones? Simulated Mario (as if there were any other kind) on a simulated recumbent?

They need some nice glass in the roads around bars and schools lots oh potholes and maybe some bad railroad crossings too. That would be sweet.
There could be a nice minigame where you have to either patch your flat or replace the tube as you get dropped.

Do you pump up your tires using the Wiimote like a frame pump?

Is there a simulated SAG wagon?

After reading this me and a friend kinda worked up a idea on how to do this.
You would strap a wiimote to your lower leg, that way you can get the full stroke and you do stuff like what they have in the wiifiit running and also add online competion and bot riders for you to race against, it could be aot of fun

There's even bicycle-friendly bars that have Goldsprint setups now.

I like the idea of an "urban bike commuter" video game. Pedestrians, potholes, cars turning and pulling in and out of parking spaces, dogs, Joeybike running red lights... it has potential.

I ride a stationary at the YMCA called an Expresso Bike that is pretty much this. Kicks my flatlander butt when I ride the mountain routes. I would so buy this if it was good and real.
