Great Lakes - Roll call for any Indy area riders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking to see who we have here in the Indy area. I finally decided that this is the year I get much more serious into cycling. I want to improve my fitness and stay healthy. If I find out I'm capable of keeping up with you long timers, I might try a criterium here or there. It would be fun to compete. I also plan to do some long tour rides this year (RAG ride for one). I know the RAG is a party but to say I cycled across a whole entire state would be good conversation. I live in the Broad Ripple area but spend my weekends on the Westside near Eagle Creek.

I live south of Indy, but work on the East side. Doing CT stuff indoors at the moment, but will likely migrate outside in March as weather permits (read: As the sound of my whining like a little girl becomes quieter as the temps go up). We have a weekly team ride that starts at 52nd/Monon after DSL kicks in. Also, some of the organized CIBA rides, like the Broad Ripple trainer might be good options.

I'm not familiar with RAG...what/when is it?

I live in Fishers but you would not have any trouble keeping up with me. I ride about 4,000 miles per year, have done RAIN the last two years, and ride the Potter's Bridge Trainer regularly. Most of the people that I ride with are smaller, lighter, and stronger than I am and I have difficulty keeping up. Besides all that I am just not a very talented athletically. But I love to ride and I keep after it. A fellow Rotary member is a triathlon coach and he is going to set me up with a 12-week training program that I will do indoors on my trainer. Hopefully that and even more hopefully I will lose some weight and be vastly improved this year. I have absolutely no interest in racing though. I would just like to be able to keep up with my riding buddies on long rides and get a better strength to weight ration so I don't have to walk hills.

Well I'm planning on doing 4K miles this year. I'm a hs chem teacher so I will have plenty of time to ride in the summer. I'm hoping to ride two training rides a day or one long one. I hope that I can do it solo because it may be difficult to find someone with that kind of time. I'm currently training on a cyclofit bike at the hs gym. Franklin Comm High School has a nice gym and it's free. I need to get myself on a good bike schedule. I want to ride in this winter but the weather has not been cooperative. I don't need to lose weight but I do need better fitness. I'm not fast nor am I slow. I have been able to keep up with some guys riding 24-27mph for about 10mi but then I'm spent. I want to maintain that for well over 1-2hrs. At 40yrs old, I'm not so sure.

The RAGBRAI ride is riding across Iowa. A criterium may be fun but I don't like the idea of taking a spill. Hey I live at 52nd and Ralston ave so I could join you guys on that monon ride. The only thing I dislike on the monon is having to stop because of cross steets. It's tough to get going with the people and the stops.

i live on the southside and we have tons of training rides. when the weather gets better, the monday/wednesday afternoon training rides will start back up at bgi south... then there are also the clark elementary training rides (these are fast, but have a huge array of riders... usually 30+) on tuesday and thursday. hope to see you out there when the weather gets better. they will probably start back up in the march/april time frame.

Runwithit....I actually work at Franklin Comm High School. I plan to do some training rides. I also want to learn a route from Broad Ripple to the high school so when I do a little work over the summer. It will be fun doing a 60mi+ round trip. Tell me what you guys do on your training rides. I'm trying to increase my watts this winter. I'm lifting heavy and trying to do the Scifit(cylcofit) bike and up my wattage.
