i forgot to buy a chainwhip. is there any way of removing the cassette w/o it? i am kind of in the moment and i want to get it done now rather go to the lbs.

A six inch piece of chain and a vise-grip will do the job. Wrap the chain around one of the smaller rings on the cassette and lock down on it with the vise-grips. A pair of pliers could also be used in place of a vise-grip. i've never bothered to buy a chainwhip.

i dont have any extra chain. if i use my good chain will this wreck it?

No, it should be ok. Just don't grab right on one of the pivot points.

Sometimes you can get by with just wrapping the cassette with a rag and using your hand to hold it. However, if that works for you, be sure to tighten the lockring a little tighter next time.
