A year ago my wife gave me a Shimano Fight deck for x mas
The last couple of rides of the season it stopped giving me info as to gearing which means no cadence. Has anyone else had trouble with the flight deck? I have had no trouble with my 19.95 cateye on my hybrid. I am thinking of scrapping the flight deck and buying a more simple model unless I can get this one to work.

I've had a FlightDeck for almost 4 years and haven't had any problems to speak of. Usually if the display starts messing up, check all the connections, change the battery to a fresh one and you might want to use a rubber pencil eraser on the little metal contacts and see if that helps.
I know the user's manual is pretty hard to follow at times. Of course you'll have to refer back to it if you remove the battery and reprogram the whole thing again.
I just thought of something. If you retaped your bars at any point in the recent past you may have jiggled the little wires loose that run under the tape up to the handbrake handle. There is a small plastic module with a ribbon cable that plugs into the side of the brake and maybe that is loose of not seated properly.
Hmmmm! Lots of variables there. Of course it may also just be a faulty unit too.
I've actually grown so used to the FlightDeck that if I ride my other bikes without it something seems to be missing. Jeez, I guess I'm too dependent on technology.:p Although it is nice to know all the details of what's going on back there in the drivetrain.
Could the settings for your gearing have gotten lost? You could try resetting it and reentering the data (yeccchh!).
My Flight Deck does something quirky. About every other time I ride, I get home and try to look at my average speed. The display reads "Err". The data needed to calculate average speed is there (elapsed time, distance) so I can do the math, but it is still annoying. I have to take my bike in for a 30-ride tuning soon and will have the LBS check it then. Shimano does not have any kind of direct support available, so you must work through the LBS.
I have seen my current speed display wacky values every once in a while. I got home one time and looked at my maximum speed and it read 79 mph, which is silly. I know for a fact that I never went over 65 on that ride (just kidding).
I love having the buttons on the brake hoods and virtual cadence enough to stick with the Flight Deck even though it does weird things sometimes.

Thanks guys.At least I know its not something I did.I really like the set up and the info when it works. I think I will take it to the LBS and let them worry about fixing the problem as when it comes to things mechanical it usually costs me more to have someone fix it after I've worked in the problem. Because of the intermittent nature of the trouble I think Bikeman has it pegged as bad wire contacts.
