I was using Crank Brothers Candy pedals for my riding with no problems. I then started riding further, 40 miles, more often 6 days a week, started riding faster so I'm pushing harder on the pedals, and started doing hills so I was pushing harder. Then I started increasing my rides to 60 miles and developed a hot foot problem. During this transition to riding further, I switched from a flexible Adidas El Moro III shoe to a stiffer, carbon sole Diadora MTB shoe and my problem went away. As I rode further and more often, my hot foot came back and I went to the Quattro pedals because of the slightly larger platform. Problem went away. As I increased my mileage, became faster, pushed harder on the pedals, the hot foot problem came back so bought a pair of carbon sole Diadora road shoes, problem went away. Now I find if I ride 60-80 miles and I didn't ride as often that week using with my carbon sole Diadora MTB shoes, I don't have a problem. But if I increase my frequency of riding, if I'm doing a lot of hills, and I add distance, my hot foot problem comes back. When I switch to my carbon sole road shoes, the problem goes away.

The summary, as long as I keep my ride length down and don't ride as often, I can wear my MTB shoes without a problem. If I increase anything, not immediately, but somewhere down the road, my hot foot problem comes back until I switch to my road shoes.

This brings up a problem and causes me to wonder. Does the hook (loop) design on the CB pedals cause a hot foot problem? And if I increase my mileage to over 100 miles, 150 miles, 200 miles, wearing my road shoes, will the hot foot problem come back?

Though I don't want to, if the problem is the hook and the size of the platform on the Quattro pedals, I'm considering switching to a larger platform such as the Shimano PD-A520 or Shimano Ultegra pedals.

Try riding in the next lower gear. Will decrease pressure on your feet.

I make it a point to wiggle my toes vigorously whenever I think about, which helps a lot.

I went thru shimano spd's and different shoes and experienced hot foot on long rides. I now use CB Acid pedals on long rides to hot foot. I've done 150km per day for 6 days with no hot foot.

I've also tried to do more pushing forward, pulling back, and pulling up and less pushing down.

Do the Acid pedals have a bigger platform than the Quattros?
