Hi!, i would like to make my first tour, so i have decided that i need a new bike, one of the problem is that i live in argentina, so i have only access to mountain bike or road bike, not a single touring bike, so i have make some research here and in my lbs. I have found new specialized rockhopper available, i have seen great reviews about using this bike for touring. On the other hand i have found an used frame giant atx 760, that is made of cromo, unfortunately the giant website doesnīt much about it, and i havenīt found much on bikeforums.

The rockhopper (the cheapest) will cost me around usd 800.
Giant atx760 frame around usd 130, but i will have to buy new derailleurs, etc etc.

The advantage of the rockhopper is that i can use it right away, but the frame is not cromo. Giant frame is an old cromo.

What would you recommend?. I will be touring patagonia, around glaciars, so everything will be gravel roads (probably 60% of them).

Thanks in advance, apologize for what i think is not a good english.

Hi, Daseba. Does the Rockhopper already have nice strong wheels? What kind of fork? As long as it looks like it`s ready to roll as is I would think you`re better off that way because it would probably cost more to build up the Giant frame (unless you already have a lot of the parts). Remember that you`re going to need racks or a trailer and if you need camping gear too it all adds up to a big investment. Also remember to post lots of pictures of Patagonia and Cuyo! Do your plans include Bariloche?
