Pacific Northwest - Finally a 2009 ride - the wind still sucks

After patiently waiting out the single digit temperatures, the nasty, icy roads and the 50 mph windstorms I finally got the chance to get in a ride today - the first for 2009. I drive between 125-150 miles a day for my job so I don't get the luxury of riding at least twice every day for a commute.
What really sucked today was the wind - sustained 15 mph with a couple of gusts I'm sure that hit 20 mph or higher. Makes for a good workout though, albeit painful. But, can somebody tell me why the wind always stops AFTER the ride. :mad: Oh well, it'll make working on the chicken house a little easier.

Same thing here in the upper county although, today was the 3rd day I've been able to get out; however, I'm retired so I don't have to waste time working. :lol:

Got my first ride (21 mi) in for the new year yesterday, finally a sunny afternoon in the low 50s in the mid-Willamette valley but with some strong wind gusts. Today we are back to rain and gray skies with mid-40s temp, so it may be back to the Expresso bike ride at the gym. I am retired too for the same reason. Happy Riding!

Why does the wind always stop after the ride? Well, it's the same reason that it always switches direction at the turn-around so you're always facing a headwind, of course :). It's because Mother Nature *knows* that you're out for a bit of exercise, and has quite nicely decided to help you out!

No ride yet for 2009 with the weather and all. Now I've been working 12 hour shifts to include the weekends. But just maybe this monday I can finally get out to ride. Next week I hope to start commuting again if all goes well.

Yes, the bike gods are smiling on Spokane this week. I've been able to commute to and from work. Finally! Of course there are numerous ice berms to wind through and no bike lanes to speak of . . . but hey I'm on the road and off the trainer so all is good in my biking world!:D Longarmbiker

I was unaware the wind ever stopped blowing in Ellensburg!
I just resumed commuting this week. I had a three week vacation, then I just didn't commute my first week back, opting to ride around the orchards in the evening to get used to the mountain bike again, which I have to ride for a while since the road bike would simply not work well the way the roads are right now.
But, seriously, did the wind actually stop blowing there?
Today would have been perfect in Eburg - mid-40's, sunny and absolutely no wind! Yesterday - holy windy city Batman! That was one rough workout.
Typically early mornings are pretty good for light to no wind. By 11:00 or so it all changes and the winds starts.
