I think i just need to rebuild the hub. When my bike is in the work stand and I pedal it backwards, the rear wheel will not freewheel easily - it wants to turn the wheel. I'm running Shimano D.A. 10 speed. thanks for the help!

Sounds like the freehub body is the problem rather than the hub bearings.

Make sure nothing is stuck between the cassette and the spokes. Pull the wheel out and turn the cassette by hand and see how the freehub bearings feel too. How old is it? Under what circumstances did you first notice this issue?

Something is rubbing or the lube in the freewheel is totally goobered up. Inspect for debris and clean/relube the freewheel.

It's been sitting up for at least 7 months and I just replaced my 9 speed cassette with a 10 speed. Thanks

might be time for a freehub body overhaul or replacement. with that you get a hub overhaul too!
