According to an msn report. I started reading this looking to see if they would even dare to mension a bicycle. Most of there reasoning is pretty pathetic if you ask me: http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Savinganddebt/Saveonacar/P42459.asp?GT1=3173

They do mention the bicycle but w/o actually saying it:
"Try pedal power. Every trip on two wheels is money in the bank and good exercise, too."

This sounds like more of the "produce, consume, pay your taxes" stuff to me. Like we are obligated to drive and spend on all things related to driving. At least they mention riding although its kind of last and least.
Obvious roof that we are smarter, healthier and better looking that all the pathetic auto morons.

>>>>>But it's not a national emergency, and it's not really a crisis for your finances unless you travel or deliver pizzas for a living. Worst-case scenario: If the price of gas goes to $3 and you drive a 10 mpg car 20,000 miles a year, you'll spend $3,000 more than you would have on $1.50 gasoline.<<<<<
That quote came right from the article and made me laugh.
Folks. There's no hope for the motorist. The writer thinks spending an additional $1,500.00 dollars for gas is not an issue. There's no hope. Why should I worry about a person who drives a car that gets 10MPH??
One of the writer's suggestions is to buy a second car (econo-box) to save $3,500.00 in gas. What about repairs and insurance for this new vehicle? The overhead of buying a new car cancels any savings at all. DUH!
Overall, the article was giving the illusion that you can still waste as much gas and still keep your expenses down. Just put all your gas on a credit card (good move) or go to Walmart for your cheap gas and fill up. Insanity.

Yep, the article is a load of bollocks. From what car owners tell me, $3,500 is peanuts to the annual expenses of owning and operating a motor vehicle anyway. Of course, the last point quoted above is even more farcical. Bung it on a credit card and pay the exhorbitant interest rates? And of course, the rates on the debt for a new car, too. Give me a break. Another one I found funny was "check traffic before you leave." Like that's ever going to catch on. Heck, drivers now can't even manage to leave so much as five minutes earlier to get to work to avoid the stress of running late in traffic.
Oh well, I guess I'll just keep riding, and keep laughing at the motoring primates I pass in the gridlock on my bike, which has paid for itself.

Hmmm. Would now be a good or bad time for a $1 a gallon gas tax?

Bad time. That's MUCH too low a number to make drivers think rationally right now! ;)

Chill! Ever tried to navigate thru a traffic jam of slow moving bikes AND traffic? Let them m-primates be - lest they park them cars and bog down everything! :D

Happy cycling!

Yep, and it's no worse than navigating through log jams of stationary cars. Mind you, that could also be because around here drivers seem to find staying in the lane particularly difficult.

Frankly, I couldn't care less either way, I was just pointing out some of the more glaring weaknesses in the "article". Personally I'd prefer cleaner air, but in a few years I plan on moving from here anyway -- so I'll leave those decisions to the people who are going to be stuck with it for longer.
