thanks to the great advice on this messageboard, i chopped off the ends of my drop bars and made my own bullhorns. this is the first time i'm gonna use handlebar tape (addicted to oury grips) and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on any brands. i like my bars thick with cushion, if that helps. any other tips would be greatly welcome.

I've got DEDA foam tape. It's different, but I like it.

This is kind of a neat look. I may try it, sans the Kierin grips, which are hard to find and a little pricey for me.

I don't know what is expensive to you but there are some grips on "Buy it now" on ebay for $16.00:

I've seen 'em on ebay a couple of times. This seller only ships to the US. As a f'riner, after you tack on shipping and exchange, it's closer to $30 CAD, which is a little rich for a "luxury" item. As I have flipped and cropped drops and not a lot of room for Keirins+wrap, I'll probably just go with either the thick wrap I have now or shellaced cloth tape for the Rivendell look.

I tried somthing a bit different with my Pista. Since I didn't want to cover the bike in reflective tape. I bought some black bar tape with a built in 3M reflective stripe. My bars now glow when lit up by headlights.

Weird but strangely practical.

actually, I have a question about the whole shellac the bar wrap thing....how do you do it and what kind of shellac are we talking about? just like regular old shellac? is it just over cloth tape or over plastic tape too?

If you like thick cushion on your handlebars you can buy tennis racket tape at Target for $3.00 a roll. It works great.

Here's my solution, the foam that is used on cruiser bikes where it is covering half the bar, I cut strips of them and place it on the bar strategicly, on the drop, the length of the hood, and the straight bar part using electrical tape to holld in place then I wrap the bar tape over it firmly in the standard wrap. It turns out to be quite comfortable period. Done correctly it is just the right width for total comfort.
