Winter Cycling - Freddies Revenze -- Wow!

Took my first ride yesterday on a new set of Freddies Revenze Lite tires. Got in about eight miles or so.

I hadn't been expecting much, because the Freddies are only two-tenths of an inch wider than the Hakkapeliitta WXC 300s that I've been running these past two years.

Well, I was wrong! The Freddies are fantastic, and are hands-down better than the Hakka WXC 300s. It's not just that extra two-tenths of an inch. The Freddies have a flatter profile that seems to put more studs in contact with the ice and hardpack. That flatter profile also works much better in the dreaded, mashed-potato-like snow that I sometimes get stuck riding through when the roads haven't been plowed well.

So I'm happy with the Freddies and just wanted to share my experience. I'd love to see Nokian put out a 29er version of them. The Freddies are so good on my 26er that I've actually hung up my 29er with its Nokian Extreme 294s in favor of riding my 26er with the Freddies.

odd. I went from 296's to Hakka 300 and find the Hakka (though narrow for a 2.1) hook up fine in ice and even better on ruts than 296's becuz the knobs are softer and can climb out of edgy ice betterer

my winter bike (litespeed) haz narrow stays and i can't run anything bigger than a 2.1. I skipped freddys revenge cuz I was thinking they wouldn't fit...perhaps they would ???

anyhow, 296 fine, but heavy like russian tank. hakka wicked light.

I should clarify a bit. I don't mean to say that the Hakka 300s are bad. It's not like mine ever slipped on me or failed in any notable way. But the Freddies do feel like they hook up even better than the 300s. And the Freddies definitely have the advantage in that mashed-potato snow that I speak of.

I have a set of those. And I'm afraid I haven't been impressed with them. The larger tires ride better through some types of snow. But those 29er Gazza tires don't hook up as well as the 300s on my 26er. I wonder whether its because the studs are spread further apart than they are on the 26er model (i.e., the same number of studs spread across a larger-diameter tire).
