What, no “HHH who’s in” thread yet? Last year we were buzzing for a couple weeks before registration. Does this mean BFNIC belts are getting tightened?

Registration opens Thursday 1/15 at 6:30pm CT on active.com.

I am in. Anyone else?

BTW I’m also looking at the Quadrupedal Century (http://www.ichs.net/quadrupedal.html) on 5/3, which is run by Stew Schilling who puts on the Dairyland Dare. Would be good practice for the HHH and a good excuse to get a jump on training for the season.

Geez....that came quick. After swinging for the Team fee on USAC, my USAC and ABR renewals, SRAM group buy, etc....I might be pretty strapped. I hate to say that I might not do this one....but....

I'll have to see.....keep this thread alive or I will forget to register if I decide to do it....

Ha, you won't catch me voluntarily doing a century in that landscape. But, my company "may" do the HHH as support. I seem to remember us doing it last year. So I may see you there.

Have fun registering!

I'm in (volunteered last year, so guaranteed spot this year), if the schedule and checkbook allow. June's going to be crowded.

And for a nice warm up, the tentative date of the 2nd Annual Double or Nothing Metric (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=424417) is Saturday May 30th. Hmmm... should I make people sign up on Active.com for that one?

I'll probably be up for riding the HHH route leading up to the event, but I've decided I don't need to pay to ride it with 2,000 of my closest cycling buddies. I do think I'll do the quadrupedal century and also the 1st leg of the double-or-nothing, assuming it falls in Cheeslandia again this year.

Wow....just seeing the Double or Nothing metric brightens my evening. Now.....If I can just get out of this bed and actually get some training going. I may need an early start on the 30th to finish by dark!

I'll be there !

I started this HHH thread but hey - I like the hijack. Why did I miss the Double or Nothing last year? I will have to try and get free.

^^^^ last time you did what? having fun drinking and eating the night before then having a blast suffering on your bike with the rest of the BFNIC gang??

side note; here is the jersey.

later.

Hmm....trying to remember what I did for the HHH last year.....Oh yeah...I did like a century and it ended up raining on me at the end. That was fun. It was the DLD that I was unsure about. I don't know. I'll have to see how it fits into the schedule.

....yes I've turned into that guy - but there's nothing that says I have to be at every event.....or at lest that's what I'm telling myself this year.

Psimet2001

I don't think I'm doing this. Gotta draw the line somewhere and the expenses associated with this are just too high. Between the registration, transport up there, hotel, beer - I mean "food", jersey, etc...that will pay for about 2 months of racing around here.

Maybe Dairyland....which is on if you got the e-mail.

I'm gonna give it another whirl. Shoot for the long course this time. Anyone camped up there? I'm selling it to the missus as a camping trip (her thing).

I can't find the HHH when I search events on active.com. Shouldn't it be there with a message that registration opens later today?

It seems like HHH registration is such a hassle every year ... and it fills up faster every year ... I sometimes wonder if the difficulty of regsitering is a deliberate marketing ploy. The velvet rope phenomenon - if you're "exclusive" enough to turn people away, it makes even more people want to get in.

Anyway I'm guessing that this year may break the streak for the HHH, given the economy and the way these events have multiplied.

My friend had problems. Hit pay button and apparently didn't take it. He was not listed and when he tried again, it was full. Filled in about 20 minutes. He will try the lottery again.

He will try the lottery again.

As far as I understand, everyone who entered the 'lottery' last year got a spot in the ride.

This may all be vicious rumor, but I heard 320 people put in for the lottery, and 300 people won. Those are good odds.

MrWenzel
01-15-09, 07:23 PM
I am rather confident that everyone that had sent in for last years lottery got in. I know of four people that entered the lottery and all of them were in the ride. If you counted the lottery winners there was like 320 listed. They were very nice that they allowed all the people that entered in. I doubt they are going to do it this year. Good luck to all of the people from the bike forum.

That is what we were told last year. Hopefully he will make it.

Got myself a campsite in the park this year (wife and daughter coming along, not riding). Check in Friday, leave Sunday for $34. Helps to have a travel trailer.

I did not get in. It would be nice to blame the axis of HHH/active.com evil, but I brain-farted and got online late. Doh! I'll do the lottery.

Calling CyLowe, I am definitely interested in the Double or Nothing Metric.

I'm just going to hold on to his bike until he gives me a free pass.

...taht or this year I'll make sure he rides over the HUGE potholes on my century. :D

Congrats to those that got in! I wish you luck on the ride and look forward to reading the reports. You know when it happens I will have wished I was with you!

I'm in. Oddly, I was at a cycling (NOT spinning) class so my wife skipped a hair appointment to do this for me. Wonder what she did....
Anyway, I've even got a tent campsite for the weekend. Surprised that there were plenty to choose from.

All the sites with electricity were reserved. The rest were open.

I go non-electric w/ tent. IMO the electric sites are way too noisy and largely seem to miss the point of being out there. Mind you when the weather is unfavorable I think they make a compelling case for the tin cans with climate control.

Did tents for a few years when I started roadracing (motorcycle). When we adopted, my wife bought a toyhauler. Works much better when the wife and 5 YO are along. Will have to look you up on friday. Staying over Saturday night?

The lottery for the 2009 HHH has been processed. Unfortunately, your name was not selected as a lottery winner.

Oh well, maybe I'll park at the bottom and ride off the back. :innocent: I put it on my calendar, and I don't want to give it up as a day of cycling!

Last year I didn't use the rest stops anyway ... this year I would just need to get by without the goulash too.

I guess that means I need to start training. :O

Bump … question for those who have volunteered for the HHH before:

Back in early February, after I did not get into the HHH lottery, I signed up on the HHH website to volunteer. But I still have not heard anything back.

Is that normal?
