I need help picking out a video card for my mom's Dell Dimension 2400 computer. She needs a pci card that is directx 9.0c compatible. She doesn't want to spend more than necessary for it.

She got a new slot machine game that requires it. I already upgraded her memory from 1/2 gig to 2 gigs. That helped quite a bit. She is not willing to purchase a new computer so I'm just trying to help her get hers up to date a little. All she does with it is microsoft office, plays a few games, and internet via dial up.

I don't think the Dimension 2400 has an AGP (or PCIx) slot, so your best bet would be to find a PCI card.

According to CNet review it only has two PCI slots, so I second what SB posted. Find a PCI card.

Correct, it only has PCI slots. I was just wanting to see if anyone had any recommendations for an affordable one.

I looked at Newegg. I found a few that say they can do DX10. I liked the looks of this one.

This (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103167) is the PCI card I have in my comp right now.

I had a Dell that came with a GeForce 5200. Kinda wimpy for DX9 games.

Tis true, but the truth is that PCI and AGP are essentially obsolete by computer standards. You gotta take what you can get.

The one I suggested is a lot stronger. The 5200 is, what, 6 or 7 years old now?
Ancient history in this arena.
