Foo - Sad hearts

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I've always believed its possible to die of a sad heart.
My uncle has fought long and hard, that's for sure. Battled heart disease, heart attacks- waited on a transplant list, and lived with a pacemaker for far too long (as long as I can remember, since he was in his 40's! One of the reasons I really advocate for donating blood as you can, and registering as a donor). His quality of life has been less than what he wanted, and it was finally too much. I received an email yesterday that he'd been hospitalized; he passed away overnight at the age of 65.
Many of you know my dad passed away this fall: this uncle is his older brother. When I called my uncle to let him know of my father's passing I could tell his distress, and his feelings of "this should have been me". In recent years, on top of his health problems he's been battling depression, and I think it was all too much.
My dad (the youngest, and my uncle. Clearly, we're passing good looks down the family line! ha.)

Thanks again (and as always, foos!)
I'm grateful he's no longer suffering, but it helps a little to air in Foo. I'm also staying at work today as I haven't told anyone- don't want to open the can of worms & possibly start the waterworks). Am thinking I might see if I can work the afternoon from home, but its almost better for me to stay busy. ANYway...

It sounds like they really loved each other. Nice pic, and nice memories, I am sure.:)After my dad passed away my uncle dug up, scanned, and emailed some really great pics of the two of them. I'll post some more later if I have time. They were pretty close, they had a great deal of brotherly love.-- as in, michevious. I like to think I come from a family who sees the sun shine through the clouds. Here's an email he sent me after my father's passing (PS our family has a pretty dry sense of humor. I find this email quite funny...):
Also, if you are still talking to him after saying good bye, I have another tasteless message for him. He zinged me from his ICU bed.
From the day he was born we have both loved each other in our way but he was constantly zinging me. Granny Ethyl was our babysitter and granny favored him over me anyway but he was an expert at twisting my tail out of her sight and then sensing when I was going to hit him, he would get to where granny would see it. He would take a minor hit from me, moan and groan like he was nearly killed and granny would have a fit, and tell dad when he came home. All day until dad came home Lin would zing me with how "Rusty's gonna get the belt". I would, dad would come home, the two of them would tell how cruel I was and I got thrashed with dads belt. The belting hurt a little especially if dad was mad, but it never hurt as much as seeing the enjoyment your dad got out of it.
The point of this is that he zinged me again last Thursday. That is Judy's day out. She goes to morning church service, then has a meeting of her bible study group, lunch at a nearby DQ with a friend and the afternoon shopping for big bargains at the mall. I usually fix up something for our evening meal and ham and beans with cornbread if one of my specials. I don't do the ham & beans often as ham on my forbidden foods list but I did last Thursday. I didn't think I was that messed up by your news, sad for sure but coping. But he zinged me again. I burned the puddin out of the beans. The burn was on the bottom of the pan so I transferred the unburned upper part to another pan. Well that got rid of most of the black crud, but even the unburned beans had the burnt flavor. Somehow the cornbread escaped the zinging so the whole mess was declared edible, barely. He had zinged me again! I was always the big dumb ugly one and he was always the cute little smart one. Well the big and little may have reversed (I have dropped about 90# and 3 1/4" from my prime) but the rest in still intact.
My condolences arti, sorry for your loss.

It sounds like your uncle's heart had had enough - in more ways than one.:(
And I agree with your uncle - your dad zinged him one . . . last . . . time. Thanks for sharing that. Your family and mine would get along real well.
May the joy of their memory overshaddow the sadness of their passing.
And to all of you: tailwinds always.

I am sorry for your loss, but those two must have been quite the pair! It hurts to lose loved ones, but the sadness of the loss is mitigated somewhat when you have such great memories.

I think my father had a sad heart in his last years as well.
These things become obvious, even when they try to hide it.

My condolences, Arti- it has been a rough several months for you and your family. I hope it's all clear sailing from now for a long while. You certainly do have some good memories to think about about, though- embrace the good stuff... that's what's important.

Artifice, I know the "glad they're no longer suffering" feeling all too well. It brought me a bit of comfort when I needed it, and I hope it does the same for you. Very sorry for your loss. Take it easy, and do what you need to do.
