Hi,
I've been offered a one-year job at the University of Bradford and everyone I've been talking to about it told me stuff like "you don't want to go there"... So I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what Bradford is like, for cycling in particular. I have to decide if I want to accept the job (the job itself is fairly interesting) but I'm not sure I want to go if the city sucks or if I'm going to feel unsafe biking and walking around. I'm really looking forward to go back to Europe because I can't stand riding on these long straight flat busy roads like here around Toronto.

Oh boy... sounds like you have a decision to make! I'm sure as soon as our European counterparts wake up in the morning, they'll chime in. Good luck with whatever decision you make, though!

Claire - Try posting your request on www.cyclingplus.co.uk - It's the forum associated with a popular UK cycling magazine. You should get some reasonable answers there.

I've been to Bradford, but its been a while. Its your typical British industrial town,
not the prettiest in the world, but not too bad. The big plus is that you'll not be too far
from the Yorkshire dales (ilkley moor ?) which has some great winding roads for cycling.
I heartily recommend a trip to Kettleworth, most picturesque town I've ever seen.
oh yeah, if you're referred to as a "bit from Bradford", its not exactly a compliment, but
it isn't offensive either. If it was me, I'd go.

Apologies to all ya'll across the pond if I got this wrong. . . :D
