Botto,

What types of music you shoppin' for?

Anything that is new to my ears.
My tastes range from Gwen Stefan to hasidic hip-hop, to delta blues, county fried rock, to middle eastern--nearly anything.
What matters is it's done with passion.

(Although I'm not hip on country, go figure)
Pass on Tuvan throat singing too.

Keane is some pretty good stuff. It's in the same genre as Interpol. And Radiohead is always a no fail too.

I have two.

As do I. My interest in music waxes and wanes. Lately, I have found myself more prone to listen to music while working, in the shop, etc.

In my younger days, I would spend hours in the record store, or at home, making tapes of albums to play in the car, etc.

I hope I get fully back to where I used to be musically. Been toying with the idea of getting a huge drive and getting all my music on it, and hooking my computer and stereo together.

I had the toughest time replacing my amplifier. The industry had completely changed.
I ultimately bought a used Denon Reciever to power my stereo up front, and moved my old tuner and amp to the back to power the backyard speakers.
I have a fairly old house, and I haven't completely steeled myself to do the necessary work to integrate the whole house.

My dads are Cerberus. Though I suppose that would make me have three dads.

Most similar to not as similar.

Elefant - sunlight makes me paranoid.
Hot hot heat - elevator
Heartless *******s - assorted songs
The editors - assorted songs

Of course more mainstream gigs like the strokes, the bravery to an extent.

Edit - Should add that while most the music above is moody and atmospheric as Interpol, only elefant comes close in terms of how clean and tight they sound.

Paul Peņa does some non-Tuvan throatsinging too. I think the royalties off this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjr5U7g6aiA)supported him his whole life...

My friend's cousin has a local band Stands with Fists. For being local they are really good imo. They have a different sound. The video is horrible/cheesy though.

The Editors - Back Room. The follow up is a tad too Coldplay to my liking, and to paraphrase Chuck Kloosterman, Coldplay is the worst fraking band ever.

Anything recent by Beck. The real one: Jeff Beck
Or, heck, anything by Jeff Beck.
Pick up the early stuff if you want to hear Rod Stewart when he had musical integrity.

Mambo Sinuendo by Manuel Galban and Ry Cooder is nice listen.

Rod was awesome back then. First JBG was a little odd/quirky but they could play. Might as well throw in the early Faces LPs too.

Sure... good stuff, too.
BTW, version 2 of the JBG is also worth checking out, though I think I'm in the minority there.

And, yeah, a BIG +1 for John Mooney

You know who Max Middleton is? Wow, I like you...
The Bob Tench band was decidely different from Jeff Beck Group Mk I but it also resonated with me.
Maybe because I was becoming more "adult" and Mark II had a "jazzier" bent (in a jazz-lite sort of way. I was soon to start venturing far, far off the path) or maybe it was because I was totally weeded out the first time I heard Situations. Damn, that's still a fine song...

A quick detour (BB&A) and then... Blow by Blow. Whoa.
But I digress... back to topic...

Another guy who can play and write is Richard Thompson... check out anything he's done in the past 4 or 5 years for a start. Sweet Warrior -his latest- is mighty fine.

And also to the OP -seeing pgoat's avatar- check out Raw Power by Iggy and the Stooges. I'm a recent convert... it'll take the top of your head off.

yeah - Max was JB's mvp for a long time there, no?

I liked the JBG "II" lps. They're certainly more even and focused than the first band. I really wished he'd have worked steadily with one really good band for a long time. He's just so mercurial....

I'm a big Beck fan. Could easily hijack this thread but I'll save that for another thread;)
