Foo - Childhood memories

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I got "friended" by my best friend when I was five via Facebook. For giggles, I Googled my parents old house, and the saw on Google maps that the boulder we used to play on is still there. I have vivid memories of attempting, not being able to initially, and ultimately climbing this rock. His old house still looks pretty much the same. Do you have any memories of places you used to play or whatnot?

Lots of great memories from Citrus Park Little League where I played LL baseball for about 7 years as a kid. I was tickled pink when they went to the Little League World Series last year.
I bought the house I lived in since I was 11 years old, so yes, I am still living in my childhood memories.
I googled (streetview) most of the places I have lived, the ones that I can remember. Most don't look all that different.

Isn't that weird, though?
yah. The one placed I lived (Tucson) the house is unrecognizeable. Big tree in front is gone.

Alpharetta Georgia is nothing like the town I grew up in. The town had just gotten its first stop light when I left to go to college. Its one of the top 10 most densely populated areas in GA now.

Dude. I wonder what that would be like? I can still remember vividly, sitting at the kitchen table writing a report that was due the next day for the Science Fair, in 6th grade.

It is very comforting to me. I see my boys in the rooms my brother and I used to sleep in, playing where I used to play, etc. The only bad part is thinking about how many times I am going to mow the same piece of grass before I die.

when you get rich, you can pay someone to do it.

In this economy, we had to let all the hired help go. I tend to casa de jsharr inside and out with the help of my lovely wife and two strapping boys. Our next door neighbor, who recently moved, owns a lawn care service, and for the first time ever, I had a lawn service last year. This year, not so much.

The house I grew up in, from 3rd grade until my parents moved a few years ago. The people that moved in cut down most of the trees and ripped out all the bushes (shrubberies?). There was a little willow tree that was too small for me to climb on when we moved in. Eventually I could climb it, and it grew to be taller than the house... gone.

I thought that was why one had kids. I'm glad I don't have to mow my 'rents bigass lawn anymore. Took an hour, back in the day. My nice urban lawn takes me something like 10-15 minutes.

We had a plum tree at the old place that I learned to climb trees on. Same thing. Miss that tree.:)

Didn't make a bit of difference when I was growing up. Chores are chores & needed to get done no matter what sex you were.

My fondest childhood memory is probably when we found some fireworks on the playground that were left over from post Stanley Cup victory celebrations the night before, then lit them off with magnifying glasses.

Dude. If I get blessed w/ one, she's gonna be shovelin' snow along w/ that grass cuttin' dagnabit. I will trade, though, by teaching eskrima & balisong skills.

I actually didn't mind the yard work so much.
I was more unhappy with the fleet maintenance of the cars. A boy, you give him a few bucks for gas, he can keep it running. Girls, not so much. Well, they were not so inclined at at any rate.

I bought the house my grandparents owned from 1954 until my grandmother died in 2000. My sister-in-law bought it from my mother and later sold it to us. She made a few changes, but for the longest time, it was very much like my grandparents had left it. While this had its nice moments, sometimes the sense of loss in knowing that my grandparents were gone and would never again inhabit this house was overwhelmingly sad. We have made and continue to make changes, mostly to the colors of the walls and have been bogged down due to weather in a big exterior paint job.
My parents still own and live in the house where I grew up, and I was over there for a visit today.

Ah. I've already got a couple of cool games ready to play w/ the kids when they get old enough. Number one is "Let's clean the gutters!" Nonstop party at our place.
Funny about things you remember, though.

That was one of the things my dad liked to ask my sisters' boyfriends to do. Sort of a test...

Last thing I would ever think of is buying the house I grew up in.
I have driven through the area on occasion just for fun, and I wonder what I thought was so great about it. It used to be an upper-middle class area when I was a kid, but now it looks all ghetto. Nothing in the neighborhood has been maintained since I lived there over 10 years ago.

My wife and her brother both want their parents' house. Her bro actually lives ~2 blocks from there so it's tenable for him, my wife has this obstacle (me) interfering w/ the 3k mile move.
I don't want my mom's house but I do want her neighbor's (mom's is pushing 50 yrs old, neighbor's is pushing 300). Similar 3k mile obstacle though, plus general lack of employability for me in that geographic region.
I have abnormally early memories. I was forming permanent memory inside of a year.
I remember being in the play pin with Paul.
I can remember not being able to walk and pulling up on the couch.
I remember having my diapers changed. I had blue rabbit pins.
I remember the mobile over my crib from the point of view of looking up at it.

your supposed to be past all that by 12. :innocent:

Sprouted early, bloomed late.
Still hang out in the play pin with the clone.
Our neighborhood is very well kept, and the technology industry has surrounded the area, making home prices stable and on the rise. The school system is great and the school is in the final stages of a total remodel. I had no qualms about buying my childhood home.
I can remember a fence in the backyard of the house my parents were in when I was born. I described it to my mother and she refuses to believe that I can remember that fence, as we only lived there for the first year and a half of my life.

I had a pedal car when I was about a year old. I described it in detail to my parents when I was about 10...they still can't believe I remember that thing.

Purportedly, that's a sign of intelligence. An old childhood friend claimed to remember being born. *shrug* Who knows? I remember sitting in my high chair, once, and climbing up a table to eat birthday cake when I would've been 3 or so. Probably a bad portent of things to come, me having the pursuit of cake as an earliest memory.

<------Exception to the rule me thinks.
