Hey guuys, my friend rides a Specialized Vegas Dirtboy. It's awesome compared to my canadian tire stuff, but really...its sweet. The problem is that its brakes are AWFUL. Did anyone here had an experience with speciailized vegas dirtboy about its brakes? Maybe all I need to do for him is to sand his brake bad fro him, but is there anyone who has advice on telling me if the brake pads arfe just no good?
dont know about the brakes being defective or anything but make sure you give the rim a good steel woolin when you sand the brake pads. they probably just need to be adjusted. i posted some steps on adjusting rim brakes on another thread but im too lazy to find it. good luck.

Now hold on a minute!! That would be a BIG no-no..Keep the steel wool off those rims. First off, the pads are low quality..Buy some soft after-market ones. Kool stop, Odyssey, Dia tech. Clean the rims with Simple Green, wipe til they squeak. Check all your cables for fraying. Lube the cables, ( including the straddle cable at the brake) with tri-flo oil. Make sure all pivot points at the brake and lever move freely. And in my opinion, GET RID OF THE GYRO/ ORYG thing..unless you are doing tailwhips and barspins.
Don't forget that new cables will stretch after the first few hard pulls. Re-adjust after the first ride.
Have fun..Ken
