Hey All,
I got a new job and new hours... now I need help figuring out when and where to get some ride time in.
I am looking for a place to ride in Irving Texas.... I am near the airport. I have seen some riders in the area but never have the time to stop and visit.
Let me know what ya got...

The roads back in and around the office parks near Las Colinas have a lot of roads that are good for riding - wide, good quality, reasonable amount of traffic. Just take a drive back there in the 5-6:30 pm time frame and you should see a lot of people riding.
If you are willing to drive a bit, go to the Southlake Town Center and start riding West along 1709 towards Keller. Go right (North) on Route 377 and then right (East) on 114. Get off 114 and explore around Trophy Club and West Lake. White Chapel road on both sides of 114 is nice. There is a lot of good riding in that area, particularly between 1709 and 114. On your way back to Southlake Town Center, og back to 1709 and take it back (114 is not a good ride as it nears Southlake until they finish the road construction.
If you are out there, stop in at Bicycles Inc. in the Keller town center.
Good luck with the wind. It is one problem with riding in that area. You may want to ride into the wind on the way out if you do "out and ack" riding.
Have fun. You are in a great riding area (when the wind isn't blowing).

No doubt wind = Dallas hills.!!!
Sir Joel,
Do you perhaps work around Freeport Pkwy? I'm in the same area,
see the same riders either in the morning or around lunch. This area has
some nice side roads between LBJ and 114, and east on Freeport towards
Coppell (sp?).
I'd ride here but the GYM in my building isn't open so no showers. I refuse to
come in after a hard hour at lunch and "towel off", I respect my coworkers too much :D
Drop me a pm, maybe we could get together some time.
Marty
Airport Drive, the road that "circles" the airport is not bad. Except for a few spots there is generally good shoulder room.

You are in the mecca of awesome riding! I belong to a club called Dallas Athletes (see website: http://www.dallasathletes.com) and we ride about four times a week. If you prefer to ride alone there are two maps currently on the website that will provide good 30 mile routes within your area (in fact, I think one map is called the "airport loop"). To get to these maps go to the "Cycling" section of the website.
If you would like to ride in a group our club meets at 6:30pm on Monday and Wednesday nights and 8am on Saturday and Sunday (for location see below). The Monday/Wednesday night ride is about 25 miles while the Saturday/Sunday rides range from 25 to 60 miles.
Fair warning that Wednesday night is pretty much a speed fest-- people use Wednesday night to challenge just how fast they can go-- it's not a matter of if you will get dropped merely when you will get dropped or when you will drop someone else. I know it sounds harsh but the Wednesday night rides have actually made me a better rider-- b/c it forces me out of my comfort zone. I ride for enjoyment every other day-- Wednesday is when I ride to get faster.
Before you decide we are a snot club let me tell you that Monday/Saturday and Sunday provide multiple pace riding groups. Saturday has designated ride leaders that will stick to a specific pace and lead on a predefined route and mileage. Currently the pace groups are (average speed listed): Less than 16mph, 17-18mph and 19 and up.
Heads up on a couple other things:
* The Sunday morning ride is not as popular as the other rides so there may be less pace groups to fall into.
* Our club is predominately a triathlon club so you will see a large number of riders with aerobars. So if aero bars scare you-- fair warning. Of course the lead riders are the only ones in aero position but you will see straglers fighting their way back to the pack hunched over their handle bars. We are a really active group that likes to have fun. We would love to have you come out if you are interested.
Another riding group in that area is the Carrollton riders. I don't know much about them but I see them out riding the same routes we do. So if our scheduled rides don't work for you, you may want to google them and see what they provide.
Where & when we meet:
Monday and Wednesday Night:
- Depart time: 6:30pm
- Start Location: Standridge Stadium (meet in the parking lot of the Acquatic Center)
Saturday
- Depart time: 8am
- Start Location: Coppell YMCA
Sunday
- Depart time: 8am
- Start Location: Andy Brown East parking lot

I just emailed Dallas Athletes for more info. I am a newbie rider in Carrollton and a staff member at Richardson Bike Mart recommended the group to me. I've been looking around the website and I like that they take the novice riders in and have pacing for them. I will most likely join them as I need a lot of help with pretty much everything that involves a bike :)
