Along with the collasal abortion the government called an effort at Katrina...anyone out there have a bugout bag??? After seeing how much the government can't help me in a natural disaster, i started thinking about putting one together....
It's not a bad idea. It's easy to put together enough stuff to survive away from home for an extended period of time. I have a lot of camping gear and generally keep healthy supplies of food, fresh water, fuel, ammunition, and tools around.
I don't live in a flood prone area, and out here in the burbs, I doubt much would go down, but I DO live near a Nuclear Reactor (10-15 mi or so), so I guess that could be an issue. I dunno, I imagine I could get out of the house a la Red Dawn if I had to.
survival kit?
hardest part is trying to secure clean water.
you need about... 2 gal (7.6L)/day per person as the minimum.

well, if you can make fire you can boil water, so I don't see that as too huge an issue, but I do have purification tablets/filters on hand, but even then they say boiling is the only safe way...

Any camping store will have the 5-gallon blue water containers. They are very convenient for carrying bulk water.
I also have a Sweetwater filter, but several companies make very good pump-action filters that get out just about everything. After that, there are always Iodine tablets. Iodine will kill everything, and then you can use a chewable vitamin C tablet dissolved in it to counteract the Iodine taste.
When I hiked the Appalachian Trail, the filter was a damn godsend. No question about it.

Don't forget about weapons. I know, I know, coming from me.....but think about it: If the government can't supply basic humanitarian needs, they sure as hell can't protect you and your stash of supplies. What I would get would be a .22 rife (good for hunting, ammunition is very cheap, easy to maintain), a 12 gauge shotgun (a 12 gauge being pumped out of sight is much more of a deterrent than looking down that gaping barrel), and some handguns, particularly a .357 revolver (reliable, powerful), and either a 1911 or an M9, as a backup. And always have a good supply of ammunition on hand, and rotate it by going to the range and shooting the weapons and becoming very familiar with how they work.
Nothing bad is ever going to happen...

That's good for bacteria, but not toxins.

A buddy of mine had an idea of using 50 gallon barrels in his attic that are fed by the water mains and discharge into the faucets of the his house. In the event of a disaster, he'd have a couple of 50 gallon barrels of water to use. Of course, he'd have his .223 rifle with two thousand round cases of ammo and 12 gauge to protect his supplies. This in the heart of Berkeley, CA. :D

Well, I was looking at a remington 700 in .308 for any hunting needs..(plenty of deer in CT) I don't have a pistol permit, so I can't buy a handgun in my state....

CT law states you have can't hunt with a .223. Has to be a heavy shot, they want to make sure the animal is dead on the first shot. .308 is pretty standard around here.....

Yes, I have a bugout kit.

For zombies, you'll want a pair of scimitar, preferably crafted by Hattori Hanzō.
You don't want to run out of ammo. :)

You don't want to run out of ammo. :)Good, bladed weapons are of course very important to have in your arsenal, but don't underestimate the usefulness of a highly-accurate, long range, reliable weapon. It's best if you can stay out of the heat of things, or at least thin the numbers before they get to you.
cross-bow or bow with arrow attached to a string.
it's been done before in the middle ages when the arrow supply got short, so it's bound to be effective against zombie hordes.
