Life can be real rough sometimes. :-P
Right now I have 21 days of vacation to use by June 30th. July 1st my vacation will reset and I will have a new set of 20 days vacation. Now the tricky part, I cant really take an extended vacation (more then a day off) until late April through mid September. I am already taking 5 days before June 30th for races.
So what should I do with my 16 extra days of vacation before June 30th? Any ideas? What would you do? Remember, I race every weekend and pretty much every spare penny goes into grad school and racing so that cruise is out of the question.
As I said, it is a rough life sometimes but I need ideas here, my boss is yelling at me to schedule my vaca!
go on a credit card tour... and fly back.

Take an extra day off after races to recover.

I do not understand how people can keep working without a break. I never have a problem taking vacation days. I didn't go on any trips last year so I just took random days off during the week and went on nice long rides up the coast.
I can tell the people I work with who don't take vacations very often. The are usually cranky.

It's easy when you live in a permanent state of vacation.
What will I do tomorrow? I don't even know yet! :)
I'm still cranky though.

Yeah, well I get a ton of vacation on top of this. It is great working in education. Week for thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Christmas, and pretty laid back hours in the summer.
Maybe I will take a week and try to solve that rubix cube...wait that might take two weeks

Do they pay you out for your vacation? I get five weeks and sometimes I just can't take them. My work will pay me out if I forget to take them. I won't lose it, but it doesn't roll over.

I like taking days off in the niddle of teh week to do home projects. One day for the work, one day to put the feet up and admire said work. :)

Massive quantities of caffeine?
I rarely take any PTO, and I'll be one of those crazy people here in the lab who gets told "take some time off or you'll lose your hours." The company lets us max out at 400 hours accrued PTO. After that, you either take some time off, or you just stop earning additional PTO until you use some up. I'm at 202.5 hours right now. I'm sure that I'll use a day or two for recovery days after a weekend 400k, but mostly I'm saving up the hours for when The Girl and I get married later this year.

cross some things off the bucket list....travel doesn't have to be expensive. During the summer, on my days off from work (admitted, I get alot of time off 24 on 72 off) I take a short vacay to someplace in driving distance...your in NY, right? ever been to acadia national park? It's awesome....ever go skydiving? think outside the box and don't let your fears limit you.

Vacation doesn't have to mean a trip. Some of my best vacations were spent at home, either riding my bike or reading books, or just hanging out.
Take the time off, but go to work and just wander around screwing off all day.

If you can take single days off, take every monday off and make a bunch of three day weekends out of your vacation time.

I try to use some of mine on pleasant days, and just go off for a ride. Of course, in your neck of the woods, it's hard to expect much of that happening before April.

Wait...are you watching me? This is what I did at work today minus that taking time off.
no I cannot cash out. I just put in for a week vacation in late march. I will either (1) head somewhere warm in the mountains and train my heart out or (2) go to NC and sit on my butt for a week at my friends lakeside house.
When I woke up this morning it was -30f outside...warmth is on my mind.

where abouts are you at? it was -40C (sans windchill) last night, tomorrow morning its going to be 0C.... although i like the 40 degree jump in temperature, i still need to get the #$% out of this place and seek warmer climate.

I would go on an extended bike trip. Doesn't have to be that expensive, since you have plenty of time. Drive to somewhere you've always wanted to ride, get a camp site, ride a few loops, spend your rest day driving somewhere else ... repeat. If you're doing it in April, desert southwest - Tucson, Taos, Moab. May - California, June, Colorado.
I would take an extended bike tour, personally, but there are some startup costs to that if you don't already have the equipment.
Wish I had your problem - self employed w/no paid vacation here.

free pizza, im in northern ny right on the canadian border, bout an hour south of Ottawa.
I think I will head to Charlottesville, VA or NC for a week in march. I have some college roommates who live down there I have not seen in a while.
Between travel and racing, this (http://www.midwestcyclingseries.com/) ought to take care of it for ya! :thumb:

I recommend taking a trip to Durango for at least a week to train for this:

If I am doing a race weekend, I might as well do the New England Race Weekend.... given it is only 8 days of racing but all within an hours drive of Boston and a handful of NRC races. Not that I am anywhere near that level but would be fun to watch the big boys.
Superweek would be fun, my coach does live out there
