Has anybody done the Worst Day of the Year ride (http://worstdayride.com/) in Portland? Seems like it would be a fun event and am considering it. I would love to hear some of your experiences. Thanks.

Sounds similar to the Chilly Hilly up here on Bainbridge Island. It's probably a lot of fun, and with a finish party at the Lucky Lab, you can't go wrong.

I think I am going to do it this year. I just need to decide whether to do the long route or the short one.

I've done it twice in the past. I had a great time.

The short loop is kind of a rolling party. Flat with several stops and lots of costumes.

The challenge loop is a decent ride with a fair amount of climbing.

I did it last year, had a blast. It "rained" (misted) for about 15 minutes right after the REI stop, then, the sun came out.

I'm doing it again this year.

My wife and I did last year. We had so much fun we registered for it again this year. It was really a nice day for Feb. Didn’t even rain on us as I remember. So far it looks like my son and girl friend may join us in riding it this year.

They only have so many spots open; I think 3,000 are the number. So register soon!

I did the short loop last year and had a blast. The "rolling party" description that dtrain used is very appropriate. I didn't wear a costume and nobody gave me a hard time about it. The Laughing Planet chili at the end was fantastic. I don't know if we're getting that again.

In eight years or whatever that they've done it, last years "misting" was the most it has rained.

I'm hoping to do the "challenge" loop this year. The big obstacle is a 6% climb up Thompson road.

I never go on pay-to-ride events, there's just too many free cycling events available in Portland already.

This is a charity ride! It benefits kids that can’t afford a bike and to teach bicycle mechanics to under privileged youth. I don't mind helping an organization that does something useful for our kids and help young adults develop a trade that will help keep them off the streets and make them productive citizens.
