The Extrawheel bicycle trailer, designed and manufactured in Poland, is a radical new approach to single- wheeled trailer design. Two of its major benefits, are its light weight and its ability to smoothly handle cargo loads over off-road conditions.

Unlike other trailers, the cargo is propped on either side of a full size wheel. This unique placement of the load allows allows for the load to be placed along the the center point of the wheel. This has several important effects:

-First the weight is almost entirely on the wheel rather than being suspended between the wheel and the bicycle.
-Second the wheel can be closer in to the bicycle resulting in tighter turning clearances and a shorter overall profile.
-Third the cargo's center of gravity is below the axle of the wheel. This keeps the wheel pressed firmly against the ground rather than bouncing when riding over rough terrain.

The Extrawheel is generally loaded using 2 dry bags on either side of the trailer. You could also just load a rear pannier on each side. Loads should be packed evenly with heavier items towards the bottom. For traveling/storage the Extrawheel is very convenient. With its slim profile, It is not much larger than a wheel. The fork is easily removed and packed away. In an emergency, the Extrawheel's wheel can be swapped with your bicycle's front wheel. The Extrawheel can function with a bent, damaged rim much better than your bicycle can.

Extrawheel Construction:
The central structure of the Extrawheel is a steel frame that fits over the profile of a wheel. On the front of the frame there is a vertical tube with ends machined to engage the Extrawheel's fork. On the rear end of the frame, the steel tubing forms a comfortable handle for lifting the trailer. An ABS fender arcs over the top of the wheel. The fender is seated into the front and rear ends of the Extrawheel's steel frame. 2 steel tubes define the bottom edges of the Extrawheel's cordura fabric sidewalls. The cordura sidewalls of the Extrawheel stretch over the top of the fender and down over the bottom edges forming the encasement around the trailer's wheel. The two side nets are sewn into the bottom edge profile of the trailer. The side nets are opened and closed with a nylon rope that runs along the top edge of the nets. The tension of the net is adjusted through a fixture attached to the Extrawheel's rear handle. A piece of webbing runs along the top of the fender providing a handle for lifting and carrying the trailer as well as for strapping down extra gear over the top.

Mounting the Extrawheel:
The Extrawheel's mounting fork is made from high tension steel. The fork fits to the Extrawheel's frame by tensioning firmly over the engagement points. The Extrawheel includes a rear quick release to mount to the rear wheel of your bicycle. The Extrawheel's fork mounts to a bicycle by spreading it over the Extrawheel's quick release. The fork snaps into place over the fitted ends of the quick release and is held in place by the fork's spring tension. The width that the fork spreads open is adjustable to fit variations in bicycle's rear axle widths. The Extrawheel also includes 3/8 x 26 nuts to fit the fork.
