Yeah, yeah, yeah...... I know trainers are great. But.......

I've got the trike on rollers and climbing blocks. It works okay. But I can't wait until I can ride outside. Sigh........

Now that I've got the trike up on blocks, I do notice a little bit of "boom sway" (when I really bear down and spin). I'm a big guy (6'5" & 250lbs), and Greenspeed knew that when they built the trike for me.

I assume that the "boom sway" was happening all along, but that I could not notice it when I was moving. If this is not normal, someone please let me know.

Yep, it's normal. Put most any recumbent with a boom on a trainer and you can watch the boom go back and forth.

Though a bit of boom flex is not at all unusual, you may want to ask yourself, in particular your knees, if you might want to change the power production balance in favor of increased cadence as opposed to pedal force.

You guys need to move out of the heartland. Today in Seattle it was a balmy 33 this morning.

I spent part of my youth in Fairbanks and Anchorage. I feel really sorry for you guys this time of year.

Thank you for your concern and advice. You are exactly right.

A couple of years ago, I did not ride correctly. I spent more time grinding than spinning. Currently, I do not feel the effects of that careless behavior. But I would bet that the future will not be kind to me.

Now, I am very careful to keep the cadence as high as possible (with the appropriate gearing as low as possible). I even have that Schlumpf Mountain Drive to ensure that I can always go to a lower gear on the steepest hill. And I have 152mm cranks.

On the rollers, I ride in one gear (high range 3-6) only. The boom sway starts when I really get the revolutions going. Of course, I am exerting more pressure. However, I am spinning very fast (and not grinding).
