Foo - Bottled, tap, or filtered?

So when you have to drink water, what do you prefer? Do you absolutely have to have bottled water? Or are you willing to drink it strait out of the tap? Or do you use a filter on your tap water?

Our tap water is some of the best in the country.

I like filters if the minerals in tap are objectionable. I'm a stingy ass, so bottled always feels like a waste of money.

I drank bottled water for years before I finally realized what a waste of money it was. Especially after that expose (forget which water company) that showed the company was just taking tap water and filtering it for their bottled water.

Now I just put a filter on the kitchen sink tap. If the filter wasn't working or something for whatever reason, it wouldn't bother me to drink it from the tap unfiltered.

i would rather have tap water over bottled if i was worried about "health concerns," since the water leaches toxins (albeit slowly) out of the bottle.

i'll drink everything, but prefer tap water 'cause it's least hassle. flip up the knob, put cup under, flip down knob, drink. i love how it works that way.

I lived in a place that had bi-monthly contaminated water warnings. Filtered only there.

tap is fine, we too have some of the best tap water.

the electric pot, which boils and stores water, is running with filtered water to keep the maintenance down.

Tap and filtered tap. I use filtered water for drinking most of the time and for making coffee all of the time. I will drink tap water if I am not at home or the filter crapped out. Very seldom do I drink bottled water, it is a waste of money and a huge waste of resources, not to mention the issue of plastic bottles. BTW we have both well and city water at the house, but the well water is marginal so only gets used for toilets and gardens.

I drink tap water usually, but I really should get another filter. Drinking fluoride is a stupid idea.

Almost got a nice one in Phoenix, but they have all those public access 15-25 cents a gallon ones.

I drank bottled for years because our tap water tasted so terrible, even post-filtering. It got better at some point, so I've gone back to drinking tap water (albeit through an in-line filter).

I didn't particularly like the idea of drinking all of that crap leached from the plastic bottles, anyway. Now I drink it out of a stainless steel bottle or a glass. Yum.

I think all the pipes in the ground around here are pre-WW1 :eek: so we drink filtered water.

I drink only filtered or bottled water. I'm trying to cut down on the bottled water because of the issue of resource use. Now I drink a LOT of water and I have NEVER ever become bored with drinking water as long as its clean and free of chemicals. Tap water tastes horrible to me and I don't like drinking it. If I do I often get a sore throat from it (tap water).

Anyway everyone to their own. If you can drink lots of tap water and like it then fine, drink tap water but honestly I think that people don't drink enough water precisely because they don't like the taste of tap water whether they are prepared to admit it or not.

The tap water at my apartment tastes bad unfiltered, so I have a filter on the faucet which seems to work fine. At my parents' house, the tap water tastes fine, much like mine after filtering. At work everyone drinks the bottled water that is kept in the fridge, and to me it tastes like chemicals. The tap water at work is great, yet I'm about the only one who uses it. :rolleyes:

I spend all day making sure the public water supply is healthy and pleasant to drink, so naturally, I don't mind drinking tap water. In my case it comes from the Sierras (hetch hetchy) and is about as "good" as water gets. But even I have a filter in my fridge that strips out the chlorine and whatnot: seems to improve the taste a little and it comes out cold so...

I have a 0.5 micron water filter on the cold water line to my sink... gets out the nasty taste of Pennsylvania...

Don't get confused, that doesn't make a difference. If I remember right, pipes from the 70's were full of asbestos and lead. Even today, by federal law, you can have up to 7 million asbestos fibers in a liter of "clean" water.

My city has very hard water so I drink filtered at home. At work the regular tap water tastes like petroleum. Fortunately they have filtered water available.

Depends on where you are. If you live in an area with a great resevoir and filtering system, then tap is fine. For baking and coffee making, filtered is preferred, since having minerals in the water can mess with the rising/baking process and can throw off the taste in your coffee (if you're really that concerned).

If not, drink bottled water whenever you can.

Bottled water is such a waste. Water weighs 8.345 pounds per gallon; think of how much unnecessary transport costs/carbon emissions occur while hauling it from Fiji.

Filtered only makes sense.

I drink filtered.... by limestone aquifers.:D I.e. straight out of the tap.

Every so often I used to buy a bottle of flavoured water for a cheap drink bottle.

Filtered but I live in Atlanta which isn't known for its water quality. When I'm hiking I drink it straight from the spring.

Tap - until the water people go on vacation or something when they start using chlorine to treat the water, then I start filtering although just storing the water for a while before using it is what gets rid of most of the chlorine smell. Normally they treat with ozone.

Work is bottled because they have nasty tap water - but the big commercial bottles which is from a local company.

I drink only the distilled tears of Mapuche orphans.

You really can get used to the taste. Particularly if you are frugal and think the energy/resource/environmental waste for bottled water is silly.
