Great Lakes - Save the Date - Double or Nothing - 5/30/09 (tentatively)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Because everyone seems to have their dance card almost filled for this coming spring/summer and because sekaijin inquired twice in the HHH registration thread, I'll go ahead and put out the unofficially official date for the 2nd Annual CyLowe's Double or Nothing Metric:
Saturday May 30, 2009 - Cross Plains, Wisconsin
Mark it on your calendars. Inform your spouse, significant other, team captain, UCI drug testers, union boss, dog-sitter, et. al., that you have that day off or else will be mysteriously ill and out of contact with the outside world that day.
The pre-ride banter and links to last year's inaugural route are here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=413875).
Ride reports are here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=424417).
An official thread will be started at some point. Otherwise, talk amongst yourselves.

Oh yeah, this year everyone must wear appropriate cycling socks:

On the dress socks:
Anyone not riding in dress socks does not get a cue sheet or map.
And maybe I'll hold off on disclosing the final route until the day of.

Last year I had to settle for riding the route solo the next day. This year I intend to make it for the group ride. Are there bonus points for argyle or tartan plaid?

Dance card filled for Tour De Cure that day. Rats.
I did half of it last year in a cutoff 34 mile route. I seem to recall on the ride back to Madison hitting 34 mph on the flat down Schneider Rd. This was my only time semi-riding with the FIBers, oops I mean BFNIC.
What's the other side of the double? Is the Udder officially scheduled?

+1 - With MJH2's help we set one up for the team to put all of the races on there and it's every freeking weekend until December (includes cyclocross) starting in about a month.

Yes, for the following weekend - in July.

The Udder's the following Sunday. As much as I'd like to have the rides on consecutive days, it's not feasible from the perspective the Double or Nothing Planning Committee.
Another note on the socks before anyone asks: Pearl Izumi Slipstream argyle socks do not count as dress socks.

I will include myself in this festivity. How could I miss those hills? And that coffee! :thumb:
How about if I wear a dress and no socks (or a women's jersey :D)?

i am pretty sure the vote on the PI socks not counting would end in a split committee decision.

Of course this is the Saturday after the Madison Marathon again. That means that I can count on not being able to pedal my oversized carcass up ANY of the hills that day. Sounds like fun, count me in.

Yes, I agree. Could it be a new tradition? Years from now, we'll be dead and gone and folks will be meeting in that parking lot on a late May Saturday to ride their bikes wearing funny socks!

Well, let's see....how many weeks have we got? I have been down for almost a month now with Hepatitis. I still find it difficult to walk from my car to my classroom at my school without stopping for a break. Would you please quit whining?
Also, JOSE PEREZ please run your legs off the day before, blow up early in the day and ride some miles with us. At least to the lunch stop. We had such a great time there. I think lunch was my favorite part!:p Well, that and riding up that long road to the lunch stop.
On the up side it looks like I may be a bit thinner ....ha ha....the way my luck's going I've probably retained all my fat and just lost muscle! I'm wasting away here and I'm still yellow!
I'll be there!

You missed the meeting. Unanimous decision. PI and/or Twin Six argyle cycling socks were voted down with a vengeance.*
The committee is also taking into serious consideration banning all power meters, GPS devices, HRM's, and altimeters, as well. The only stat anyone needs to worry about on this ride is maximum speed.
What zone a rider was in or the percentage of time someone spent above lactation threshold will not be tolerated.** Top speed is all that matters.

** The only exception to this will be for moms pulling their newborn in a Burley trailer.
you cant convene the team of monkeys for a vote on your own. this is outrageous. that being said a vote with vengeance is a vote i cannot dispute. off to JC Penny for some fancy dress sock shopping i go. later.
Hey, look man, I didn't mean to shoot the son of a *****. The gun went off. I don't know why.
I would love to do this ride and have the perfect socks for the event. However an 8 hour drive is hard to justify (for the wife) for a ride.
You guys should all come to Michigan it would be worth the 8 hour drive for you.:D

To paraphrase W.P. Kinsella's Shoeless Joe: Organize and advertise it and they will come.
With plenty of advanced notice, that is. 8 hours is a long friggin' drive.

2 hours or so. It's ~125 miles to Cross Plains going straight west on 90 and then taking the beltway around Madison to US-14.
