My Dahon Piccolo bike was stolen from where I locked it outside my house. This is in the West Covina area. I am so ****ing upset because it is my method of transportation!!!:mad::mad:
If you see someone on a Dahon Piccolo bike please let me know! It looks a lot like this pic, except I put the rear fender back on and it now has big apple tires and two bottle cages. I did file a police report and let the local schools know so if a student rolled in on one they'll know it's stolen, but I don't think they'll take it seriously because it's "just a bike."

:( Condolences.
I doubt it will make it's way down here, but I'll keep an eye out.

PS. Check out the local Craigslists over the next two weeks or so. Or hit up pawnshops. Normally thieves won't nab a bike just to ride it, they'll try to sell it quickly.

I'm sorry for your loss. You're not the only one. I've had 4 stolen from me in 20 years here in LA. All of them vintage 10 speeds, and all but the last one not worth much. The oddest theft happened when I leaned the bike against a building in broad daylight and went up a flight of steps to knock on a friend's door to see if he was home and wanted to join me for a ride. When I got back down (what, 90 seconds?) the bike was gone! A group of drunks were sitting across the street and I asked them if they saw who took it. They I.D.'d the guy as a local crack fiend. I confronted him later and he fessed up, and then got me a temporary bike from a friend.
The last theft was in summer of '07 when my prized vintage was stolen from a storage unit on a "safe" property. The property owner felt so bad he offered to buy me new one. That began my entry into the world of modern road bikes.

Sorry to hear it. Hope the scumbag who took it gets what he deserves!

I'm sorry to hear about that...that's a terrible feeling having something like that stolen.
This is why I never leave or lock my bike up. I'm thinking about getting an old beater to actually use as my mode of transportation.

Does this mean you can go out and get a brand new bike?

I don't have the funds right now. >_< Gotta wait for homeowner's insurance to pay up, or hafta borrow from my parents (highly unlikely that they will help though).

Sorry to hear that, Neko.
You are welcome to borrow my folder until the insurance comes in...

I say in the meantime if you can't afford a replacement, find a cheap $50-100 beater on craigslist.

I do have another beater folder which I can use in the meantime, but it's not good for anything more than 5mi because the shifter is broken and it's essentially a 2sp (originally 6). I've been doing 10 on the new foldie, which saves a lot of stuck-in-traffic-on-bus time. Back to the old one it is until I can scrounge up the bike or funds. Plus I gotta get a new lock for my old foldie. Gorilla lock it is.

Htfu...you're riding double speed from now on. Look at the positive side. By the time you get a folder that actually shifts, you'll be faster and stronger.

Sorry to hear that - I can't stand thieves who take people's hard-earned stuff.

Really tragic Neko,
Sorry to hear about this!
I don't have a folder now, or I'd lend you mine.
I had a bike stolen once, but was fortunate to get it back six weeks later (thanks to police detectives in Ft. Dodge, IA!).
Hope you get yours back too!

So what parts are needed to get back into working condition, I have some parts if they would work you can have them, maybe others may have some needed parts laying around that can be put to good use.

6sp shifter, and probably new cables too. I did a bad thing and left it out in the backyard too long and it got all rusted out. :o The parts are low low low quality though (generic chinese brands) so I'm just gonna keep it until I have time/money/inclination to upgrade.

Sorry to hear that. That being said, there is a reason I keep my bikes (even commuter) inside.
