It was a Gitane Tour de France from the early 70's I got in 75.
But the fork wrecked, so it got replaced with a Columbus steel fork. And repainted.
And the wheels, pedals, headset, seatpost, saddle, stem brakes and bars were changed along the way.
Now it has a new rear wheel...
So I'm not sure what it is now.

and I still need to post a photo of the whole thing...

As promised, here's the bike. We got about 7 miles in, just to try it out. It's really weird. Riding is fine, stopping is different, even with the brakes. Downhill is interesting.

I'm pretty strong, and very fast, so I think I could ride it up and down any hill, as long as it's less then a 1% grade.

Yarrr! I ride mine flop. I can't take it over 10mph without the feeling of overwhelming dread when it's in flip mode. :backpedal:

I'm wanting a SS. When ever (or more like IF ever) I can afford a new bike, I'll convert my backup into a SS/FG similar to the one pictured.

Nice lookin bike!

Yessssss. Somewhere flatish would be good.
I'd have to air up the tires on my fixie though since I haven't ridden it in months.

Curtis, keep at the fixed side and soon you be able to do 150+ RPM no problem. Just learn to keep the legs somewhat loose.

As promised, here's the bike.Looks great, good job! You've even got the fixed-gear-OCP bug, with the matching brake housing, crank dust cap, straps, and even anodized toe cages. :)

couple of bumps is all...Don't listen to this man!

Last time he promised a flat route around and through SF, my legs were sore for a week.

Just learn to keep the legs somewhat loose.Only problem with learning the "fixed gear coast" is that when you instinctively try it on a freewheeled bike, it's really awkward there for a second. :P

Are they supposed to?

Actually, the front is old, but the back was falling apart, so it got a new one. If I love riding fixed, I'll get two red ones.

Do you have to swing your legs over the handlebars to ride it?

That's actually a semi-serious question. Why do some people do that? And why are those people always on fixed-gear bikes?

So why do you ride flat tires on a fixie? Curtis, don't you stop to fix flat fixie tires even though they are old front tires?

I'm one of those guys that mount the bike as described above. It's more than likely because I started out riding fixie and because this guy said it's the cool way to do it... :D
