Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Can I count commuting miles as base miles?
Furthmore, can I count commuting on a mountain bike as base?
My commute is starting to add up and I do 1/2 on the mountain bike 1/2 on the road bike.

Base miles are base miles, but if yer not getting any long base rides mixed in it could be questionable.
Commuting in sneakers on a toodle-bike loaded with panniers or a backpack is extra mileage that always makes you stronger than if you sat in a car thinking about riding your bike.
Of course it counts in your log book towards training.
I used to add up to 8 hours a week to my training load like that. My best seasons always had extra miles. That simple.

He means TITS(TM) - the Totally Interval Training System. You may not be ready to handle TITS(TM) in really massive volumes - can be a real handful.

You, sir, have obviously never tried any high-quality TITS(TM). Despite what many say, the quality of TITS(TM) is as important as quantity. I would argue that most riders in the racing sub-forum have tried them at one time or another. Except maybe Pcad; despite his machismo, I doubt he has ever been near a real TITS(TM) session.

Oh, well, you should try the other kind some time.
