Hi,

I'm in the market for a repair stand but seriously strapped for cash. I can grab the PCS-9 for $100 or the PCS-1 for $200. What are the major differences between the two? Anyone had experience with the PCS-9? I know it just came out this year so many may not have had a chance to use one yet.

i have the pcs-9...i have no problems with it at all. I feel it is sturdy and serves its purpose.

How heavy is your bike? Do you think it can handle a light freeride bike and still be sturdy? Something around 40 pounds?

$200 is too much for a PCS 1. I think the going rate on these is about $140. I have both. They both work well enough. The PCS 1 folds up handier and quicker and has a better clamp on it but the 9 works ok also.

No, $200 is a good price, that's Canadian dollars. Thanks for your input.

i have a road bike and a mountain bike that are both fairly light...ill check if my moms bike (it weighs a bloody ton) will still be sturdy on it though...

The PCS-1 is a good stand and is $125 US at Performance. Sturdy with a versatile clamp. Only drawback I can claim is that I wish it could lower once in a while.

Can the PCS-9 be lowered, or is it only the PCS-5? Does anyone know?

the pcs-9 can be lowered...all you need is the right size allen key...which comes with the stand so you can set it up.

Cool- I will most likely gravitate towards the PCS-9 over the PCS-1 then, since I need a stand that can be raised and lowered, but still can be folded up and stored away.

Thanks for the tip!

The PCS-1 can be raised and lowered also. It's just that I wish it's lowest setting was 6 inches lower. When I get into serious cleaning and tinkering, I like to sit sometimes. Maybe I should get a higher stool.

Yikes! I'm not a tall person to begin with, so I would definitely want something that went a bit lower than normal... otherwise, I'm sure I'd be straining, and that's no fun!

I have to pay for shipping but it's only $12. And the tax out in BC is only 7% instead of %15 so I'm paying like $120 total shipped to my door.

the pcs-9 goes pretty low...like im not extremely tall and i have it nearly as high as it goes.
if your lbs has one on display ask them to put a bike on it and see...how tall are you?

I'm 5' 1 1/2 ". Does the PCS-9 fold to something I could say... slip under the bed? In your opinion, of course.

if you were to move the feet all the way up and the upper top to its lowest setting it would definitly fit under a bed. from doing some measurements i think you could get it to about 42" in height...it may be a bit less but itll be around that (i was too lazy to actually collaps it so i just measured where things would be:D)
i hope that helps...if you really need an accurate measurement i can collapse it for you and tell you exactly how big it will be....

Nah... I'll trust you and assume it fits under the bed. Thanks for the information! I think I'm ready to get my PCS-9 already! I'll jump on ebay tonight and see what I can scrounge up.

Thanks!
