Mountain Biking - 1983 Diamond Back "Meanstreak" MTB

Hi,
I salvaged a Diamond Back MTB "Meanstreak" frame and fork and headset. Don't have pictures yet of it.
Couldn't save much of the bike. Salvaged the frame with fork and headset together, the brakes, shifters and front and rear derailleur (very good quality Shimano "mountech").

As a beginner I researched and found out that this is a 1983 bike approx. One of the earliest MTB's I guess.
It's all made in Japan. The frame is built completely lugged and CroMo. The frame is in good condition mechanically. Nice piece to look at and think it is one of the early MTB's.

I was thinking if I should turn it back into a MTB or make a roadbike style single speed out of it.......
The chain stays are kind of MTB'ish, wide.

Anyone interested in the LA area in this frame? I would be happy to sell it to a MTB enthusiast. I am more a Road Bike enthusiast.

The rear drop outs are sugino "plated" (let's name it this way). The headset is Tange sealed. The frame is black and the lugging has white lines. Looks really great. The meanstreak logo is scratched off kinda.

What do you think about this bike?

I think you should post on the C&V forum. There will certainly be interest in seeing what you have. But only post when you have pics.

no way was it made in 83 by Diamond Back.

I would think the ultra relaxed angles on that bike would make for a terrible "roadbike style single speed."
Cruiser style single speed, perhaps....

I read somewhere that the Mean Streak and Ridge Runner were the same bike. Here's some good info on an old Ridge Runner:

I believe that I now own this very same frame, and how glad I am. It is difficult to describe just how well it performs it's duties. Always solid, reassuring, and never a creek or a moan. To stand up and pedal has no consequence on stability. To change direction yes it needs to be pressed, but it can not be pressed too hard. Yeah it weighs something but so do my shoes (not bike shoes). In a city (Los Angeles) where the roads are poor this vehicle has proved itself to be as comfortable as I could have ever dreamed of.

holy smokes those are indeed some relaxed angles. What's with the saddle pointing sky-high? No tilt adjustment on the seat post? I would get a seat post that has tilt adjustment if I were you.

*edit* Actually it does look like there is tilt adjustment on that seat post. Just loosen that single bolt that clamps down over the saddle rails, and there should be toothed indentations that allow tilt adjustment.

Quite a few Brooks riders like their saddles nose up, I've noticed.
