I have the BBC network on my cable service. My girlfriend likes a lot of the shows, but I can't understand what they are saying. I do like the Graham Norton show. Sometimes when I watch it I realize I have been laughing or smiling through the whole thing.

It just sounds like you need to go get a ride in, that will help the mood :thumb:

Those shows need English subtitles. :innocent:

The show that I think Europa is referring to is "Grumpy Old Men". A great show for our generation.

But on the subtitle bit- You might have trouble translating the spelling.

BBC America used to have some outstanding shows like, "Waking the Dead", "MI-5", and the "Monday Mysteries" but they haven't had a decent show in a few years. :(

Ain't that the truth! I am out of work, had a major vision scare (retinal tear), hassling to obtain private health insurance for the first time in my life, and almost lost my eldest nephew, age 25, to cardiac arrhythmia. but I had a great 25-mile ride this morning. Endorphins rule!

Use to be some good stuf when it was heavily on shortwave radio ! BUT since they went heavy cable tv the whole net work kina stinks IMHO .

The trouble with you yanks isn't that the brits and aussies talk funny but that you lot listen funny :D

Grumpy Old Men is a great show and you all need to watch it ... or read the book. The basic premise is that when you reach a certain age, you spend your life outraged at the utter stupidity going on around you - you get grumpy. The show itself is just a group of blokes grumbling about things - drivers, shopping centres, mobile phones, etc.

The other show about old grumps that I love is One Foot in the Grave and I'm on record as claiming that Meldrew is my role model.

This thread was born when I realised I'd slipped into grumpy mode lately. I'm no stranger to this mind you, the line under my avatar is only partly in jest, but I've been especially grumpy lately, internally of course, not taking it out on the world around me (which is the secret to successful grumpiness). Probably a result of a return to full time work after 12 years being a house dad, writer and student.

An no, no riding this weekend. I'm commuting by bike and am mindful of my body's need for rest days. That too will change with time but for the moment, the legs feel tired so I'm resting. I am going to see the opening stage of the Tour Down Under tonight though where I hope to find out if Lance Armstrong is serious about this return to racing or whether he's just there to bask in the media spotlight (according to the local media, he's the only bloke racing and the whole event has been put on for his benefit, an attitude that makes it very hard to feel good about Armstrong).

Must be something about the UK upbringing and sense of humour. Although you may need a translator for the sense of humour- "Grumpy Old Men" highlights the sarcasm that you aquire with age.

And on the Victor Meldrow as a role model- I am about to become a Grand father. So what am I going to be known to my Granddaughter? Grand Dad? Grand Father? Grandpa? No---- It has unanimously been voted that I am to be known as Grumpy. I stand no nonsense from anyone- so If my GD starts causing any problems to her parents-She will be sent round to me for sorting out. After all- I sorted her mother out and she admits that after seeing the way most of her friends turned out.

The movies appropriately takes place practically in my back yard - Wabasha, MN.
It captured the essence quite well.
