Great Lakes - Hey Kimbercop

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I saw that banner ad and thought the same thing. Did you read the description? Wow. (Also- Competitive Cyclist needs an editor for their web content.)

I wish I could take credit for that idea, but I can't. It is however made by the same company as my current duty sidearm and the reason for the screen name. Trust me, after being pepper sprayed over 10 times, I'll take any pepper spray over the taser again. Why have I been pepper sprayed so often you might ask? Well, I was in charge of deciding which spray to use at one of my previous employers, and I decided what better way then to test on myself. I'm kinda weird that way.
BTW, Mrs. Kimbercop still won't watch the video of me getting tased and wouldnt speak to me for 2 days after learning I had volunteered, she's kinda weird that way, its the nurse in her I guess. My kids on the other hand, love the video and ask to hear dad scream like a girl from time to time.

links, or it didn't happen.
on a more serious note: why do you think that Competative Cyclist (in particular), and the cycling community (in general) feels the need to have pepperspray? Beyond the obvious reasons of "self protection".

I wish that link would just disappear. No video of any of the pepper spray tests or any of the other crazy stuff Ive done. Too bad. I'll be sure to be better prepared next time.

Well since its on the internet you're gonna have a hard time getting the world to forget it. Most likely it's already up on a few dozen other sites so people can laugh at it.
You sir have ballz(tm). I wouldn't let myself get tazered if I could help it.

A Kimber Pepper Blaster banner ad has been running constantly on BF on my computer for the last couple days. I'm still not tempted.

In general I would never think about using this kind of stuff, but honestly it may not be a bad idea. There have been some situations I have been in. I know how fast weird stuff can happen and with all the reports of road rage, etc....
Dogs don't bother me as much as people.

I'm old school. If I'm gonna inflict some type of pain/compliance less than lethal type force on a person, I want to know what I'm inflicting. I feel it makes me less likely to overuse the device/force if I know how badly it sucks/hurts. Some of the guys I work with argue that using my rational, I should shoot myself with my pistol. I argue back that I'm pretty sure dead isnt any fun. Plus, if I ever end up court since I'm a use of force trainer, I can testify to how it works/feels better than those who haven't done it.
Most of the people in that classroom were from other agencies all there for the instructor class. Most were there for recertifications, and already knew what it was like so they didnt choose to take a hit again. The three guys from St. Charles, all took hits, I was just the last, and loudest. In all, I think about 10 people in the class took hits. I save video of every person I taser and have gigabytes of other trainers, and actual uses on the street. At my department, about 1/2 of the people we certified took hits. After the first goes, it kinda gets to be a pride thing and more and more volunteer as time passes. Over 8000 voluntary hits have been handed out nationwide in training situations without a single injury/death, excpet for a few injuries due to the fall. I can honestly say it was nothing like I expected, and hope to never do it again, but worth the 5 seconds of agony.

This applies to many things in life.
