Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Today's Rider and Actually Got Help form a Skinny?

Gina still sick so I rode alone. Well for a while. I started at Imperial then made a quick stop at the port-o-potty.:D...I saw this dude go by. I rec-a-nize and said wassup a few time before but never a reply. OK, whatever! By the time I start he's way off. Later I see him up ahead but maybe a 1/4 of a mile in the distance. He's doing a good pace and I'm not gaining. But ten miles later I've seemed to have caught up. So I just ride by knowing that most riders just mind theirown and don't care what others around them are doing. Plus knowing that he never returns a greet, I just go by after with a courtesy shout "onyerleft".

I go by, so I thought! I notice that he jumped my wheel. OK, I just keep riding and doing my pace. A couple of miles later, he goes around. Here we Go! I'm so used to other riders sucking wheel then sprinting around after they recover. But to my surprise, he pulls in front and takes the lead. Whoah! This is the last guy I would expect to help out but he does. So heck, I'm going with it. We ended up working together on the last 10 miles to the coast. But still never a word, or a wassup. Just riding! That's cool, it was a bit breezy and we both comfortably held the pace right about 20 mph for the 10 miles:D

I've seen this dude out ther for nearly two years. He and a couple of buds never smile, say hi or acknowledge our lil gang. SO I guess that's why it's so amazing that he worked with me! I guess you never know!:eek:

Man it must be something to have a trail like that to go riding on. It is nice to get in draft mode once in awhile. Man I wish I could draft someone on the trainer.

That guy looks like he is all business. Next time you pass him, try reaching out and patting his rear, see what he does. lol.

next time you catch up and pass him, let him ride your wheel for a few minutes. then raise up and drop him like a hot rock. next time he sees you, he will show proper respect and speak to you first.

Kind of strange but I have more respect for a rider that will work with me than one that says hi then tries to drop me!:D

At one point though, he sucked my wheel for a bit then we hit a short steep climb, only 40 yards but tough when you're doing the pull. He tried to go around me on the climb, he pulled up on the side in an attempt to go around but I kicked up the pace and matched him up the hill. I don't think he was trying to drop me. Maybe trying to show that he could climb better since I'm a big guy. But I did the pull and still matched him up the hill. I think he was shocked but it made me easy for me to stay on his wheel as he took the lead.

I haven't said anything since the previous meetings. Like you said, I don't owe the bum anything but since he did work with me, I'll have to give him that!:D

I know he saw me coming up and think that he did try to stay away. But once the headwinds hit, I knew I'd catch him. I'm sure that got his respect right there, coming froma 1/4 behind. Maybe that's why he chose not to sprint around aftr he recovered.

And to be honest, I don't think I could have dropped him once he took my wheel. He was good. If I surprise attack and open a gap maybe, but not once he takes my wheel. I did notice he slowed on the uphills of the underpasses in the wind even standing where I remained seated without losing pace. I might have been able to surprise attack on a hill.

Plus I really didn't think he would take my wheel. You know when us big guys run down a skinny, right away it's "I didn't know we were racing, I was doing my own thing, I don't care what you do". But always more than happy to to take our wheels. So I was surprised but he did work with me!:thumb:

Maybe he was just enjoying following you to much to talk... he does look a bit like Lt. Jim Dangle from Reno 911. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
