Fifty Plus (50+) - re: coffee and haircuts

Okay, its fri. night and after 10pm and I should probably be in bed, however, I figure what the hey! I haven't looked at the forums in a bit. (This due primarily to not having done any biking to speak of since 08/08. Does anyone have a cure for chronically sore quads?) So I slap some C,S,N,@ Y on the old turntable, fire up the computer and start browsing the over 50's.

Whoops, time to flip the album over.

Well it being winter and all and me not riding, I go to the OT threads. Why read about all the fun everyone else is having riding! Besides I only look at the pictures. So I start reading of coffee and haircuts and dammed if I wasn't amused by both the comments and myself as these are issues I am currently addressing.

I'm in the process of cutting my coffee intake back to a couple of cups once weekly. This just as much for my prostate as for my sleep. Gee, 40 years later still listening to the music both A-side and B with the added bonus of listening to the P-side as well. At least some things have changed. Of course 40 years ago I didn't worry about sleep either.


As to the haircut issue, until a few months ago, I buzzed my own head. At that time I happened to see a picture of myself-man it didn't look that bad in the mirror! I haven't cut it since. Of course, it's not making much of a difference in more ways than one, but I can always hope. Besides after having looked at my year end statements (think IRA'S) I'm d_____d if Ill pay 13 bucks for a trim. Of course that may change when I see a picture of myself with longer hair.


Now its after 11pm and I really do have to go to bed so that I can toss and turn between trips to the bathroom. I should have skipped the extra cups of coffee, but it was Irma's and pie without coffee? However, I think that first I'll stop and comb my hair or take a ....

One of the best. I was fortunate to catch them live at Duke University.

Browsing the forum- Music I like on the radio- big cup of coffeee in my hand and I have had my 6 monthly haircut last month.

We're much lazier on the other side of the pond. We make trips to the grocery store for our fruits and vegetables.

I usually go 10-12 weeks between hair cuts, sometimes longer. I sit there and watch all the hair falling off, feeling grateful that I still have that much hair and no bald spot.

Coffee? Don't drink it. I hate both the taste and smell of it. I know almost everyone likes the aroma, but not I. I hate walking past the coffee grinder in my local supermarket.

Pie: I guess the M&M is closed by now. I meant to get back there for one more slice of their Amish Creme pie, but didn't get around to it. The LMNO Pie Shop in Fitchburg has closed too.

I recorded a bunch of vintage CSN and played it in the endo suite while I had two young and nubile nurses working with me. I asked them their opinion of it.

One said, "I'm sure you like it but I think it just sucks". The other nodded her head.

I then did the experiment with "Never found the time" by America. ANyone over 45 or so likes it (we're talking about endo nurses). ANyone under 35 hates it. The tweeners didn't have much opinion one way or the other but spoke lovingly of Dire Straits.

The Crosby pic caught my eye. I am a huge fan of CSNY, Buffalo Springfield, and of the many bands accompanying Neil Young over the years, especially Crazy Horse.

I like coffee though I need to consume it in moderation. Actually I really, really like coffee.

I don't bother with haircuts much. It only grows around the sides and back anyway. If I get too frustrated at it I just hand the shears to my wife and she gives it a proper enough trim. I do trim my full beard and mustache on a regular basis though.

I cut back on coffee 'cause I didn't think 12 cups/day was really doing me any good. Now I have about 2 at breakfast and maybe one more at work.

Hair? Not much of that left and what is has terrible texture. I spent $25 on a home hair clipper setup 10 years ago and just give myself a buzz now and then. Love it in the summertime when I can just sit on the deck and let the hair fall where it may.

Truthfully, I learn more useful information in the 50+ forum.
Somebody posted some hair cutting gadget available at Target. I'm picking one up this week to give it a try. I have short, fine hair that sticks up. My barber can cut my hair in 2 minutes with his eyes closed.
Might as well save some money for bike parts.

The oldest nurse in the endo suites is about 60, the youngest is 25. Some are smoking hot, and others have pleasant personalities.

You never know who your assignment for the day will be. It keeps you running (don't ya know, baby).

You must have had pie at Irma`s in Argyle!!
I was there the summer of 2006 and had her Sour Cream Rasberry pie and I was told that I was lucky to get it, as her pies are usually gone by the time of day we were there.
All I know is it was the BEST there is!

I was researching my "Jacobs" family history there.
Such a great friendly place that I spent much of my youth also on my "Erickson" ancestors farm. My mother was baptised at the old WIOTA church, I believe the oldest still open in the area.

Hey rck, did you know that the M&M Cafe in Monticello was successfully sold? It is closed for now but is scheduled to re-open in March. Don't know if it will be keeping the same name or offering pie.

For now our buttons that we biked to the M&M Cafe for pie, are collectibles. Stapfam has one of them.

As a matter of fact some just told me that it had been sold. I believe that it has been purchased by someone from Argyle. M @ M I believe have purchased a house in NG.

The West Wiota Lutheran Church, where I was baptised 50+ years ago and my mother is buried, burned down several years ago after a lightening strike during a WINTER storm. The bell survived. A new Wiota Lutheran Church was built in Wiota. I think the East Wiota Lutheran Church is still active.

My mother's family homestead is just outside of Wiota. Lots of Norwegian-sons in that area. Holverson, Erickson, Johnson, etc.

RCK and I have talked about doing a ride from Monroe to Wiota, probably via Argyle, and back to Monroe, probably via South Wayne. It would be an interesting backroad-y, scenic ride of about 50 to 60 miles.

How 'bout that? I managed to work in both a 50+ reference and a cycling reference. :thumb:
