Commuting - Discipline

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Wake up, coffee, shower, dress, teeth, car, road, work. Work, car, road, home, undress, bed. Discipline?
Discipline is riding your bike to work. That takes discipline on a regular basis. Cycling to work builds more than legs, it builds character.

I beg to differ.
Discipline is stopping your morning ride in order to work.

Good one MichaelW!
For me, discipline is looking at new posts in General Discussion and Commuting and Advocacy/Safety and ignoring everything else.

You don't live 14 miles from work! ;)

This I agree with totally. Why can't we all be professional cyclists?
Sorry. I need to be disciplined as I failed this morning.
Got up, saw it was raining. Thought about taking the bike, then decided to take the bus.
Now I'm in the office I'm regretting it already.

I confess, that having been blown sideways on the bike yesterday, I decided to take notice of the local weather forecast prediction of very high winds last night.... of course todays actually only a bit blustery... :(

I wonder what that would be like. Having many different bikes, traveling the world just to ride..

Having read "A rough ride", wouldn't thank you for it (Unless you could guarantee that I'd be one of the top 3)

Sell the car - dicipline becomes much easier when there are fewer choices.

I now know this to be true. I have not owned a car for 10 years. But, last year I moved in with my GF (and her car). My GF takes the bus down to the University ever morning, so that leaves the car sitting out in the driveway. This requires me to make the choice to drive or ride the bike into work. It really isn't that hard of a choice, but every once in a while the weather mandates I drive to work. I just wish is wasn't so easy to drive. I really liked it when I had no choice.

Paul Kimmage, an Irish domestique who had the (mis)fortune to become a pro a wee while after Stephen Roche, Sean Kelly and Martin Earley. as a result he was a bit overshadowed.
Excellent read, particularly his diary on Tour de France.
The life of a pro ( unless you are a big winner) must be dreadful.

Life in general, even if you are a big winner, is dreadful.

Not the most positive outlook. Perhaps a live that is not dreadful is lived by a winner.
How is winner defined? I say one who lives comfortably doing what they love, for themselves. Being a "company man" has suffocated me for long enough. Money be dammed!
