Ive searched, and i didnt see much on fitting pricing.

But, when i bought my new bike my super local LBS (im from a small town) didnt fit me properly and i feel like im not situated properly.

The Good LBS, which is 35 minutes away from me said, yeah bring it in, it should cost anywhere from 25-50 bucks depeneding on how major of adjustments we have to do. They said about a dollar a minute.

Does this sound good?

And what should i look for when they are fitting me to make sure they are doing an good job? I dont want to get screwed.

Lastly, is it completly necissary to wear bike shorts? Im not too much of a girl to wear em, i just dont have any clean pairs right now haha. and i dont really have time to wash them.

thanks.

A pro fit session does not involve your bike. It's done on a special rig and results in the measurements used select your bike. What you are getting is really an "adjustment" session. What they are proposing to do is to make the bike you already have fit you, which, of course, is trying to do it backwards.

Ask them if they have any fit certifications etc etc... but our shop charges $75 and it's prob like 2 hour service where they measure, adjust you go ride, feedback measure adjust and so on.

Don't know that I totally agree with this. I've been fitted with and without my bike. The last time was on my TT bike, using the Specialized 3D system with the camera setup; they took initial measurements, then made changes to the bike with me on it. I have also seen the Serotta system that does indeed use a special "fitting" bike.

$25-$50 seems low depending on what they are doing. Ask up front, and realize that you will likely have additional money to pay out for things like a new stem, etc., if it is not the proper size.

alright, thanks alot guys. I think im just going for a tweaking then as that one dude said. Im not like a super intense road biker and im on a budget being a student. So that sounds good. Ill just bring my helmet and crap so i can test it all out.

wear bike shorts, and your appropriate pedals/shoes the shoes are a must as it'll change your saddle height.

wear bike shorts so they can easily see the mechanics of your leg moving...trust me it helps them.

and a $1 a minute?

so are they going to have a stop watch on the fitting? it sounds a little sketchy IMO.

My point was that going in with a bike and getting "fitted" is really just adjusting the bike to fit you as best as possible, and, IMHO, is doing things backwards.

An analogy might be getting a new suit. No (competent) tailor is going to look at you, grab a suit off the rack, have you put it on and then "fit" it to you by making adjustments. They are going to do the necessary measurements up front and then select the suit that is most appropriate; after that there can be (minor) adjustments.

Mine was $125. It allowed me to go back for tweakings (except the shop went out of business last weekend), it took about 2 hours the first time.

I don't disagree...I think you put things well.

To the original poster, your bike is probably the right size for you. One of the things that dysFTP kind of alludes to is that these measurements are transferable. If you are fitted to a bike, it will be easier with those measurements to determine whether the bike you are looking at "fits" you before purchase.

Depending where you are at, you might try to see if there are other bike shops that offer fitting services. I remember a fitting called "Body Scan" a couple of years ago, and a shop that I bought a lot of stuff at performed this for free (although as I remember it was not really expensive to begin with). the measurements were actually very close to other fits that I had done previously.

In fact, I just found a link...

Well i went to the shop, and all i wanted was some basic seat height and saddle positioning and handlebar adjustments.

The dude was super nice, spent about 15 minutes checking all my stuff out with a plum bob dealio, which was good enough for me. I then asked him about my handlebars and he told me i needed a shorter stem, cause im rocking about a 110 mm one right now and to get into the front top position i have to have my arms completely extended. Which gets uncomfortable. So i think im gonna go get a new stem and then have him mess with my handlebars.

Best part about it, after talking with me about random stuff for 25 minutes, he just told me he usually doesnt charge for it. So i tried to find something to buy so i wouldnt be a moocher (couldnt, i bought crap the day before from there) and then left.
